Half of the UK's Wii owners haven't booted up their systems in six months or more, new research can reveal.
This news comes from a study, conducted by
www.MyVoucherCodes.co.uk discovered that 48 percent of Wii owners haven't used their system in six monts or more.
The survey covered 1,672 people aged 18 and over who took part in the poll.
64 percent of those polled confirmed that they owned the Nintendo Wii console but when asked how long ago did they last use their system, 48 percent admitted they had not used the Wii in the last six months.
Of those who had not used the Wii in the last six month:
41 percent: Didn't have the time
29 percent: The Novelty has worn off"
22 percent: moved onto Kinect or PlayStation Move
23 percent said they had not used the console within the last month and 12 percent of those taking part said they had not used the system within the last week.
Of those who used their Wii console in the last month, 39 percent said they only used the system to play Wii Fit.
Chairman of MyVoucherCodes.co.uk, Mark Pearson, suggested the Wii was "a novelty" when it launches but if seeing stiff competition from competitors.
"The Wii really was a novelty when it first came out, but following the release of new motion controlled gaming platforms it appears that people have lost enthusiasm for the console," said Pearson.
"Wii's are a great choice, particularly for families who want to keep all ages entertained; but, inevitably, new platforms start to take over, as motion-controlled technology develops and improves across the board."
"It's quite surprising to see that over half of people who own a Wii haven't used it in the past six months or more; but realistically, it's simply another example of the latest technology starting to become outdated."
The Nintendo Wii launched on December 8 2006 in the UK.
Nintendo is currently focussed on the launch of its new handheld The Nintendo 3DS.
