This mode requires strategy, teamwork, and a better than decent knowledge of the map and icons. The first time we played it, nobody knew what they were doing; total chaos and stupidness ensued. The second time I played it we had an experienced Volition player on our side, and a THQ vet on the other side. This was by far the most interesting game of them all. In Bling Your Ride you must pick up any car on the street, kill people, collect chains, or whatever else to earn money, and then acquire enough money to upgrade that car to level four status. Once you get to level four status you must then get that car to a base, which in our game was on the fourth floor of a garage, and hold the position for about 30 to 60 seconds. All of this must happen without your car getting destroyed -- which means you have to avoid heavy gun fire and random cars speeding into you.
Basically, you set up into two teams and as many as four players can pile into a car. All of them, including the driver, can shoot while driving. This mode took us about 20 minutes to win. The thing is you have to constantly protect your vehicle from the enemy, who's bound and determined to destroy it. There are garages placed throughout the environment for you to hide them, in between traveling to the upgrade stop, defending yourself, and killing gangsters. Once we had someone who knew what to do, and who showed us the way, we realized how deep and strategic this mode is. A special note should be mentioned here: Blowing up enemy cars is one hell of a fun experience -- the cars detonate and fling flaming metals parts across the screen. If you're too close, you're likely to catch on fire and die, and any nearby cars is also likely to take serious damage and/or also blow up, causing a potential chain effect of explosions.
In the end, Saints Row's multiplayer modes run the gamut of very basic deathmatches (Gangster Brawl) to the mid-range Protect the Pimp to the in-depth, strategic heavily team-oriented Bling Your Ride. By definition, even the worst game is fun in multiplayer, but Saints Row is neither a bad game, nor is it unworthy of your attention. Volition's dedication to creating a detailed, high-res huge open world with tons of multiplayer options, a great lobby, and a variety of games to pick from, gives this game legs. It also opens the genre to multiplayer and another level of customization. Think about it this way: How many times have Grand Theft Auto fans wanted to play that game online? In my case, since GTA III.
