Apparently Bethesda ripped off a New Vegas mod for a Far Habor Quest in Fallout 4 - Autumn Leaves is a DLC-sized quest mod for Fallout: New Vegas developed by BaronVonChateau, who you may know on the Codex as Chateaubryan. By all accounts it's an excellent mod, taking inspiration from classics such as Planescape: Torment and proudly upholding Codexian design values such as choice & consequence and skill checks.

Hell, it even has a Cleve Blakemore reference. Unfortunately, coming out only weeks before the release of Fallout 4, Autumn Leaves was overlooked by many players. Somebody at Bethesda must have noticed it, though...because it turns out they shamelessly plagiarized it for their recent Far Harbor DLC. And I don't just mean that they took inspiration.

Amy Hennig calls AAA development "an arms race that is unwinnable" where crunch is still a big problem - When Soren Johnson, the designer of Offworld Trading Company and the host of the podcast, asked Hennig how difficult AAA development was on a personal level, Hennig replied, "Really hard. The whole time I was at Naughty Dog - ten-and-a-half years - I probably, on average, I don't know if I ever worked less than 80 hours a week. There were exceptions where it was like, 'Okay, let's take a couple of days off,' but I pretty much worked seven days a week, at least 12 hours a day."

And the seven-day working schedule wasn't limited to people on Hennig's level. Johnson posited that weekend work wasn't generally the same, and asked how much of Naughty Dog's team would be present. "A lot of it," Hennig replied. "I mean, Naughty Dog is pretty notorious for the amount of crunch, but obviously in a leadership role you try and do even more."

"When you go to pitch a game like this, it's like, 'Well it better have this many hours, and you'd better have this mode, and you'd better do this.' Or we could go, 'You know what, we're gonna make the best fucking six hour game you've ever seen. And that's all it is. And could you please make that $40?'

While Hennig admitted that she wouldn't change anything that meant she hadn't made games like the Uncharted series, she admitted to having a clearer view of the issue when looking at the experiences of other people. When asked if making AAA games was worth the lifestyle that goes along with it, she replied, "I don't think so."

"There's people who never go home and see their families. They have children who are growing up without seeing them," she said. "I didn't have my own kids. I chose my career in lots of ways, and I could be single-minded like that. When I was making sacrifices, did it affect my family? Yes, but it was primarily affecting me and I could make that choice. But when I look at other people... I mean, my health really declined, and I had to take care of myself, because it was, like, bad. And there were people who, y'know, collapsed, or had to go and check themselves in somewhere when one of these games were done. Or they got divorced. That's not okay, any of that. None of this is worth that.

Hm, macht mich schon etwas nachdenklich.

Ohne Day One geht fast gar nichts mehr.

Uncharted 1; a ten-hour game, no other modes... you can't make a game like that any more

Waypoint: Inside the Shady World of PlayStation Network Account Resellers - A few weeks ago, Mic Folk got a weird email. The person writing it claimed they'd been playing Overwatch on a PlayStation Network account for more than six months, but the password had changed recently. But why would Folk know anything about this random dude's account? As it turns out, they'd "purchased" Folk's account through a website called PSN Games, one of many businesses trafficking in the selling of cheap games by sketchy means.

The individual who bought Folk's account was an Overwatch fan named Bennett Eglinton.

"Hello I purchased overwatch from psngames.org and this email was used as the account info," reads an email from Eglinton, sent in early March. "However the password I was given for the PlayStation Network sign in no longer works. Did you happen to change it? Can I get the new info."

Console Repairmen Explain Why Cockroaches Love PS4s - First, there were snakes on a plane. Then, we had sharks in tornadoes. I heard about the PS4’s roach problem at an independent console repair shop on the Lower East Side of Manhattan. XCubicle is a clean and well-kept business where locals drop off their broken consoles to get diagnosed and repaired. Now, there is a darker and more prevalent combination of pests and unlikely places they exist: cockroaches in your PS4. “You see those bags?” he asked. “Those are bags full of roaches. Those are all dead by now.” Che added that roach-infested PS4s are so common that XCubicle now charges a $25 “roach fee.” They get at least one each week. Other console repairmen interviewed say that at least half of the PS4s they receive are loaded with roaches.

The PS4’s design accommodates roaches better than other consoles’ because its ventilation grates are wider. Those vents are located at the bottom of the console, so roaches can get in with ease. Also, according to repair professionals, the PS4’s insides gets hotter than the Xbox One’s because of its internal power supply.

If that was the case, then Sony would prefer not to handle your console according to this note posted by journalist Brendan Sinclair. You can keep that PS4, thanks.

Streamer goes viral after broadcasting UFC pay-per-view while pretending to play UFC video game - An ingenious streamer broadcast a real-life UFC pay-per-view event while pretending to play the latest UFC video game - and got away with it.

AJ Lester, from the US, streamed the entire UFC 218 broadcast on Saturday night across multiple platforms, including Twitch - with controller in hand.

A clip of the stream, which has gone viral on social media, shows Lester making noises as if he's playing the game. At one point he even complains that he should have blocked a hit. On-screen, the main event between UFC featherweight champion Max Holloway and Brazilian great Jose Aldo can be seen with a picture of Lester in the bottom right-hand corner.

EA, maker of the UFC video game, will likely be pleased - with hundreds of thousands of views on social media relating to UFC 3, this is the best form of advertising the company could have hoped for - especially considering last week's microtransactions furore.

'8K' VR headset in the works by Chinese startup Pimax
https://www.techspot.com/news/71385-8k-vr-headset-works-chinese-startup-pimax.html

The Pimax 8K will be launching in January starting at around $500. Unfortunately, that is just for the headset alone. Pimax calls their VR unit “modular,” but what that really means is that you have to shell out additional money for the controllers and base station. Those will cost you another $300.
Deren Entwicklungen schreiten rasend voran.
