DC's January 2013 solicitations confirm that four books are ending with their 16th issues:
- Frankenstein: Agent of S.H.A.D.E.
- Grifter
- Blue Beetle
- Legion Lost
None of these cancellations are necessarily surprising given that all four books were among the lowest selling of the New 52 lineup. Luckily, for the most part fans of these characters will have other outlets to read their adventures. Blue Beetle #16 is being positioned as a jumping-on point for Threshold. Jeff Lemire is adding Frankenstein to the cast Justice League Dark. Presumably the Legion Lost characters will be reintegrated with the cast of Legion of Super-Heroes. And as far as Grifter and the recently canceled Voodoo go, all signs seem to be pointing towards an eventual ensemble WildCATS book being added to the New 52.
We'll be interested to see what other books DC will add in February to keep the count at 52. Threshold is already filling the gap left by G.I. Combat in January, meaning that there will be four open slots in February. One of those four slots will be filled by Justice League of America, but what about the remaining three? We're not expecting Man of Steel to debut until closer to the movie's release next summer.
We'll have the full January solicits from DC available later tonight. Until then, let us know your thoughts on these cancellations and what new books you hope to see as replacements by posting in the comments section below.
