Today Broadcom, one of the largest manufacturers of wireless technology, announced a partnership with Nintendo Co, LTD to supply their upcoming system, now officially titled Wii, with wireless bluetooth technology. According to the release, the Nintendo Wii would become the first gaming console to utilize bluetooth connectivity as a standard.
Just as important as the announcement is the ramifications that come along with it. By utilizing bluetooth technology, Nintendo can drastically reduce latency in its wireless connectivity, one of the major concerns shared by many in response to the wii-mote. In short, it would allow Nintendo to achieve more of a real-time feel with little to no delay between data input and execution.
In addition to wireless bluetooth connectivity, Broadcom announced that it will also supply the new console with a 54g Wi-Fi chip which will allow the console to wirelessly connect to Nintendo's wifi service, as well as a connection to Nintendo's recently announced Connect24 service.
The new chips will also utilize one of Broadcom's proprietary technologies which allow for higher data rates over a greater area of connectivity.
It really is starting to look like "Wii will rock you" (pun intended, they only beat this one to bloody death at e3). In the meantime, foregoing any other lame puns, you can count on DSRevolution to provide you with the latest news and updates as they happen!
