Xbox 360 outshines PS3 in latest US console installed base figures

Reversal of fortunes for MS and Sony in North America, but Nintendo's still the boss

Following the revelation of European installed bases for active consoles earlier today, retailer GameStop has detailed US figures.

While Wii and DS remain the clear frontrunners in the sales race, Xbox 360 comfortably takes second place on the home console front, whereas in Europe it's a close third. Here are the figures:


Wii - 34.2 million units
Xbox 360 - 25.4 million units
PS3 - 15.4 million units
DS - 47.3 million units
PSP - 19 million units

GameStop said: "Based on internal company estimates, we believe that the installed base of video game software units in the United States currently exceeds 1.98 billion units."

Wird es doch via Netflix, Sky etc. in bestimmten Regionen gehen. Halt erstmal nur in 2D.

...genau in 2D ist es ein alter Hut, da die Vertriebsstrategie von Nintendo allerdings eine andere ist (3D ohne Brille), ist es tatsächlich etwas das es so noch nicht gegeben hat. Die ersten 3D-Handys werden Nintendo in dieser Disziplin gewiss sehr schnell das Wasser abgraben, aber für ein paar Monate sollte es die Kunden begeistern können.
 
10 Mio Vorsprung in den USA, 5 Mio weniegr für Japan und 1Mio weniger für Europa macht ca. 4 Mio Vorsprung für die Xbox360.

Ein Einholen ist IMO erst Ende 2012 realistisch, und dann ises ja eigentlich auch egal :ugly:

Nicht wirklich wenn die neuen Konsolen erst 2013/2014 erscheinen xD
Wobei ich die Erbsenzählerei eh nicht verstehe - bekommen doch beide Plattformen mehr als genug Knaller Titel :-)
 
Gerade deswegen ist es ja unbedeutend. Der Vorsprung ist so gering das beide Konsolen (fast) keine Exklusivspiele von Drittherstellern bekommen.
Mal davon abgesehen das es dem Spieler sowieso egal sein kann...
 
Natürlich ist einem Gamer egal, weil bei den Lineups kommt man eh nicht mehr hinterher xD

Aber wer hätte sich die Gen so vorgestellt in Sachen Vkz :ugly:

PS3 to Finish Last in March NPD - Analyst

In advance of the NPD report for March later this week, Wedbush analyst Michael Pachter has issued his preview note, which estimates that Xbox 360 sold 480,000 units (42% growth year-over-year) in March, taking the top spot in console sales yet again. He forecasts that Wii sold 410,000 units (down 26%) and that PS3 sold 380,000 units (up 21%).
As Pachter has told us previously, he believes that Microsoft's console will maintain its momentum from Kinect and continue to outsell PS3 and Wii in the U.S.

"We expect demand for the Xbox 360 to remain strong due to Kinect (in early March, Microsoft announced worldwide sales of 10 million units). We expect Wii hardware sales to continue to decline in the first part of 2011, with PS3 hardware sales moderating. PSP sales should receive a modest lift due to the recent price cut," he said.

"Wii hardware sales were down 26% in 2010, and we believe that the downward trend will continue at least through this month. PS3 hardware sales were roughly flat in 2010, and notwithstanding no meaningful catalysts (other than the relatively modest launch of the Move controller in September), we think that Sony’s increased marketing should keep sales relatively flat in 2011. Xbox 360 sales were up more than 40% in 2010, and continued the upward trend in January and February, although by a more modest 15% and 27%, respectively. Without further price cuts, we expect hardware sales to be down in 2011, and we think that the console manufacturers will position cuts around the E3 Expo in early June."

Die Wii Zahlen sind schon hoch, wenn man bedenkt das eigentlich nichts erschienen ist im Monat...Respekt :-)
DS Zahlen dürften auch gut werden, dank Pokemon B/W und dem Bundle.

Xbox 360 expected to be last month's leading home console

Game industry analysts have weighed in with US sales predictions for the month of March ahead of the NPD Group's release of official market data this Thursday.

Wedbush and EEDAR analysts Michael Pachter and Jesse Divnich have both predicted 500,000 3DS sales during the system's first five days on sale in the region, the handheld having launched on March 27.

Meanwhile, Xbox 360 is forecast to be the top selling home console for the month, and software sales are expected to be headed by Crysis 2, Dragon Age II, Pokémon Black & White and Homefront.


Hardware sales estimates, Wedbush / EEDAR (year-over-year change):
3DS - 500,000 / 500,000
360 - 480,000 (+42%) / 515,000 (+52%)
Wii - 410,000 (-26%) / 400,000 (-28%)
PS3 - 380,000 (+21%) / 410,000 (+31%)
DS - 350,000 (-50%) / 380,000 (-46%)

Last month, the NPD Group placed new restrictions on the release of US hardware and software sales data to the media. Having already removed sales figures from its own monthly reports, the retail monitor warned analysts not to supply any confidential sales data to press.
