Last year, PS3 owners got a chance to experience one of the years more engaging story-lines with Valkyria Chronicles, a strategy RPG released by Sega this past November exclusively for the PS3. The game told the tale of a small nation, Gallia, fighting in its defense against a greater empire.
The most interesting aspect of the story was the development between characters and the relationships and backstory that drove them to fight. It was a plot that had a much heavier focus on character development than most strategy games.
One of the three new DLC packs available for Valkyria Chronicles in the PSN store - Selverias missions - finally gives players a new perspective on the story-line put forth by the games original story campaign. Putting you in the shoes of Johann, a meek and somewhat novice engineer working for the Empire, you are assigned to the regime of Selveria, one of the key female antagonist throughout the main game. Due to circumstance, you are assigned specifically as Selverias aid, as you follow her through battle, thus giving your character the opportunity to develop a relationship with Selveria, allowing you to gain new perspective and added depth for her character.
For the gameplay, youll gain the chance to control Selveria and Johann throughout the various new missions. Youll have to strategize and use the two together, as Sylveria only carries a powerful weapon, while Johann carries first-aid, grenades, and repair tools.
Of course, youll also have access to the usual assortment of class types as well: engineers, snipers, scouts, etc.
Its a great add-on to an already great game and well worth the $4.99 price tag. Go check it out.
