Ultimate Multiplayer Shortcut
Warning: The following method is a quicker way of completing the twelve-week journey in multiplayer, you should only do this method at your own risk! If you do choose to this and you're new to multiplayer, it's recommended that you only do this on your second twelve-week run when you are familiar with the multiplayer of the game.
This multiplayer is awesome, but not everybody is likes the stealthy, tactical, and team-oriented approach. For those of you who want to get the two big online trophies (Firefly and Hunter) with as little effort as possible, this section is for you. If you are new to The Last of Us multiplayer, be sure to read the Introduction to Multiplayer Missions section first.
In your 12 week run, you'd normally have to complete 168 games. But with this guide, you will only have to finish 56 games. Each game takes between 10 and 15 minutes, so some people may consider this to be the smarter method for them.
First you need to understand how the Clan-System works and how you can take advantage of it. There are only 4 basic things you need to know about the clan system:
What is the perfect amount of survivors?
What is tactical quitting and how do I use it properly?
What are my loadouts and how do I play?
How do I approach the mission objectives?
What is the perfect amount of survivors?
Most people think it's best to have as many survivors as possible because in case of a big loss of members you would still have quite a few members that are still alive to back you up. Where this is true for those who play the game for fun, this doesn't work with the shortcut. As far as this method goes, the less survivors you have, the better. A perfect clan contains between 15 and 30 survivors. Why you don't need more survivors than that will be explained later in this guide.
What is tactical quitting?
If you quit a multiplayer match, you won't get any supplies for your survivors, some of your healthy survivors become hungry or sick, and others die. But at the same time you will advance one day. This means that you can quit a match as soon as it starts and skip a day at the expense of a few survivors. Basically that is the whole shortcut. You can quit some matches and thus skip days.
But before you start quitting all 168 needed games, there's one thing you should know. If you have 0 healthy survivors and you quit a match, you will lose your whole clan. So the goal is to quit only if you have at least one healthy survivor.
The most effective method of quitting is to have a fully healthy clan (size doesn't matter, but every single survivor must be healthy) afterwards you can quit twice in a row. Subsequent, a few of your survivors will be dead and you will only have hungry and sick ones left. Thus every third game you will be busy getting your clan healthy again with supplies. Now, the perfect clan size is important: Because the less survivors you have, the lower the amount of supplies you need to collect per match to make the people in your clan healthy again.
How do I use tactical quitting properly?
As mentioned above, you need your clan to be composed of healthy survivors only when you are ready quit the next two games as soon as they start. If you play regularly you might need 1-3 games to get your clan ready. But with the right setup and tactics you will easily get enough supplies in one day. This means that in the end, you will actually only play a third of all the games.
What are my loadouts?
Once you start the multiplayer, use the pre-made class "Support". Since most of the survival skills aren't unlocked this is the best one you can choose.
From time to time you will unlock more skills and loadout points. As soon as possible this will be your perfect loadout:
Primary Weapon None
Secondary Weapon Revolver
Skill (6 Points) Crafter 3
Skill (4 Points) First Aid Training 2
Skill (3 Points) Collector 1
What are my tactics?
Your goal is to get as many parts as possible in game. The easiest way to do so is to use a supporter class.
Here is a list of tactics to get easy and fast parts:
Craft gifts: Craft items in your inventory and you will get gifts for your teammates. Equip a gift with Up and press L2 to give it to a friend.
Healing: If you are very close to your teammate and they are hurt, you can heal them by holding Cross. This will give you the biggest amount of points.
Reviving: Downed teammates can be revived by holding Triangle next to them.
If you do these 3 things all the time you won't have problems getting enough supplies for your clan every game.
How do I approach mission objectives?
We established that it's better to have a sparse clan. So for that purpose you don't want to complete most of the missions because they either give you a higher population. You only want to complete the 5 missions who would kill 100% and thus wipe out your whole clan. Ignore all the missions who give +10% or -60%. Just pic "Downs with Bow" in that case, so you aren't able to complete even a single tier.
Remember: Two thirds of all games are usually not played. And you only have a total of 3 games to complete the mission. Try to complete the objective within one game so you can still skip the other two. The easiest one is "Heal Teammate". Because tier 1 is everything you need, it's not that hard to get the right amount of heals.
If you fail to complete the first tier of the mission, simply quit the game via XMB. Like this the game doesn't skip a day and you can try again.
