MOVIC has finally opened pre-orders for the much-anticipated official, 1/1-scale 3D maneuver gear replica from Attack on Titan. Order now, and it can be yours in late January— for 99,800 yen plus tax. That's a total of 107,784 yen or about US$1,000.
What that stack of bills gets you is a 10-kilogram (22-pound) recreation of the iconic hardware, as well as blades and arm cartridges. The main unit is made of ABS plastic, aluminium, silicon, soft foam (with iron inserts), die-cast metal, and polypropylene resin. If you plan on slicing Titans, be forewarned that the blades are made of soft foam (with plastic/die-cast inserts).
So you won't be carving up enemies or swinging from rooftops — but come January, you can be this guy:
Kodansha's Bessatsu Shōnen Magazine announced back last October, a full year ago, that MOVIC would display a prototype of the 3D maneuver gear replica at the "Survey Corps Archives" exhibition that month. The main unit of the final version measures about 37 by 32 by 14 centimeters (15 by 13 by 6 inches), while the blades (with grips) is each about 88 centimeters (35 inches) long. The arm cartridges are each about 71 centimeters (28 inches) long.
The November issue of Bessatsu Shōnen Magazine has caused the internet to fall into mass chaos. During a special Q&A editorial with Attack on Titan's creator Hajime Isayama was asked, "Out of all the women in the 104th, who is Mikasa closest to?" to which he responded, "Armin."
Since then, his answer has become one of the hottest topics on the minds of fans, throwing many of them into confusion. While some of them have been searching for proof of Armin's gender one way or the other, some are just left flabbergasted. Popular actress and manga lover, Rika Adachi posted on her Twitter on the topic saying "Is this a joke? LOL! I have no idea!"
Full Moon O Sagashite's creator also Arina Tanemura commented on the occurrence, saying, "If they confirmed it in Bessa Mag then it must have really been written that way," followed by, "Armin... Armin-chan... Kidding, I thought I'd play around with it."
Series creator Isayama seems to be determined to add more fuel to the flames, adding this comment to the debate. "Among those around Mikasa, Armin's looks are a little ambiguous."
However, the biggest news on the topic is the fact that even Marina Inoue, who plays the role of Armin in the anime adaptation of Attack on Titan has joined in the discussion. She posted on her Twitter simply asserting "Armin is a man!!!!"
Not a joke, folks. Attack on Titan and the @Marvel universe are crossing over! In 2 weeks. In Japan. Want a teaser? https://twitter.com/CBCebulski/status/529337244768022528
