NCsoft and ArenaNet recently published a press release regarding the massive success of their most recent MMORPG project, Guild Wars 2. Included in the press release was a statement from Mike O’Brien, president and co-founder of ArenaNet, where he said ““It also impresses upon us the responsibility we have to our players and explains why we’ve taken steps recently to constrain sales of Guild Wars 2 to ensure the highest quality of service”
So why have they put a constrain on the sales in Europe? Well to put it bluntly, it flew off the shelves. Everyone knew Guild Wars 2 was going to be something special, but nobody anticipated such a successful launch. Over 1 million players logged in to play during the head-start event, and even more joined after the official release.
Guild Wars 2 is now in the number one spot in official charts in over 10 European countries, an impressive feat for any game. The players love it, and a number of big-name websites have endorsed the title with 10/10 from Eurogamer, 5/5 FHM and it has been labeled as “easily the new benchmark for MMOs” by Empire. Guild Wars 2 has already conquered UK, Germany, France, Spain, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, the Netherlands and Belgium, but it shows no signs of slowing.
We’ll leave you with a final quote from Mike O’Brien: “Our games have always been well-received in Europe, but this level of enthusiasm is both awesome and humbling”
