Neue WiiWare: Gravitronix

August 28, 2007 - A new player in the Wii software development community, Medaverse Studios, has officially announced its support for Wii with a game destined for Nintendo's WiiWare service called Gravitronix.

Medaverse Lead Designer, Jesse Lowther said "We're immensely grateful to Nintendo for giving us this opportunity [...] As a creative team, we had always toyed with the idea of game development and we even had an RPG in the planning stages during the height of the GBA's popularity. We had all but given up on that dream, but when Nintendo first revealed the Wii remote to the world, that dream came back with a vengeance. Once WiiWare appeared on the horizon, we knew it was our chance."

Medaverse Studios is currently developing Gravitronix, which will be available through the recently announced WiiWare service. "We're looking forward to introducing our own unique style to the gaming world with Gravitronix," said Lowther. In describing the game, he commented "We hope to offer a fun and accessible gaming experience which is easy to learn but a challenge to master, including a robust multiplayer mode with enough hidden depth to keep even the most hardcore of players struggling to outdo each other. The way we see it, if you don't swear when you lose to another player, we haven't done our job."

According to Medaverse's forums, Gravitronix is an action/battle game for 1-4 players, set in a single-screen arena. Weapons are projectiles (shown in the logo), all with different physics.

Medaverse Studios is a US developer, with their website metamorphosing from a fiction writing site to a game discussion forum, specifically for Super Smash Bros., with the company beginning game development in 2006.

German developer Shin'en, best known for their Nanostray-series, is developing a WiiWare title

In an interview on Shin'en's latest Nintendo DS title Pet Alien, the developer was asked about their next project. The answer by Shin'en:
"One of our current projects is a WiiWare title. Beside that we are making the final touches on 'Strawberry Shortcake – The Four Seasons Cake' for the Nintendo DS. 'Nanostray 2' is also completed and just needs a release slot."

Nintendo being very supportive with WiiWare channel

Every Wii owner out there wants the WiiWare channel to be a success. An open stream of new, fresh content pouring into our Wiis. Take into account the control scheme, and we should see games that couldn’t be done on other platforms.

Vicarious Visions CEO Karthik Bala has opened up with some info on just how receptive Nintendo is being with the channel. According to Bala, getting a game on the WiiWare channel is a lot easier than going for Xbox Live Arcade. Nintendo is even going out of there way to spread dev kits out there for indie teams.

I am psyched to see what titles hit on the WiiWare channel. We will get Nintendo titles, third party projects, and even indie creations. Now if we could only get that damn hard drive…
