"NO.....NO, not again"!
is probably what you are saying to your self right now? Yup! Thought so. Well I'm not here to preach my beliefs, I'm here to ask questions and find answers. If you feel this thread isn't your cup of tea, then put down the cup and slowly step away. I wouldn't want anyone to get hurt.
For those who enjoy a cup of tea no matter the flavor then this is for you. I've gathered a few articles for us to look over and discuss while we wait for the exhale of Wii news at E3.
Article 1
"We're so scared of piracy right now that we're ready to pimp out our mothers," Cameron said. "This whole day-and-date DVD release nonsense? Here's an answer: (Digital cinema is) one of the strongest reasons I've been pushing 3D for the past few years because it offers a powerful experience which you can only have in the movie theater."
The director of the highest-grossing film of all time in nominal terms at $1.8 billion worldwide said he is considering a re-release of 1997's "Titanic" in digital 3D, just as Peter Jackson is planning at some point for "King Kong" and, possibly, his "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy. George Lucas also plans a 3D re-release of his original "Star Wars" timed to the space opera's 30th anniversary next year.
Isn't it funny that Nintendo is and has always tried to find ways to stop piracy?
Article 2
Luke Hetherington, 3D Supervisor, says Animal Logics 3D team created environments and effects that keep to the spirit of the game but take the experience to a much higher level. "We recreated environments from the game, but on a much grander and dramatic scale. Placing the live action character into these completely digital worlds, we used lighting and atmosphere to define distance and space, he says. One of these is the ice lobby for which the team used game reference material before recreating a similar version in 3D. This version was larger in scale and more detailed so that it could fit more closely with the filmic technique.
I suggest you check out the artwork in the "Article 2" link and then check out the video of the Metroid Prime commercial, it could hold the key to what Nintendo is planning. It also has some of the best VFX for a commercial EVER!!!
Japanese console giant Nintendo is considering a foray into the movie industry, it emerged today, with former president Hiroshi Yamauchi telling a press conference that he plans to propose an animated film project to the firm
We have yet to see this happen...E3?
Article 3
Finally, on the topic of the NES (Famicom), ostensibly the reason for this interview as the console celebrated its twentieth anniversary recently, Yamauchi-san unsurprisingly revealed that Nintendo plans to keep the platform alive. "There were clearly masterpieces of software available for it," he commented, "and we're examining how we can keep those titles alive with today's technology." And charge users a pretty penny to play them again, no doubt.
This article is dated "03/07/2003". You wouldn't have been able to tell what Yamauchi was talking about exactly at the time, but we all know he was referring to the Virtual Console in the Wii.
In relation to Nintendo's cinema venture it seems that these ideas were being set in stone...We are yet to see the cinema side of his comments.
Article 4
If that feature in itself isnt enough to ensure that every DS owner takes their machine everywhere they go, then Iwata-sans lateral thinking concept of cinema convergence certainly will be. An upcoming Pokemon movie will apparently, communicate with DS owners in the audience, offering all kind of gimmicky interaction. If thats to become a regular thing, perhaps the Revolution is starting
Its all cinema related. Think about the possibilities...No, ACTUALY think about it!
Article 5
"We are absolutely considering the idea (of going into the movie business)," Iwata said. Although we don't have anything to talk about right now, we hope to make an announcement by the end of the year.
So is Nintendo going into the movie business or not?...E3?
Article 6
Iwata also commented briefly on Nintendo's entrance into the movie market, hinting that although the company is strongly considering the move, it isn't completely sure if it will be going into the business just yet.
"We're strongly considering the matter. I've been in contact with the scriptwriters, directors, and the production companies. We're looking into the potentials between movies and video games. But if we decide to really go into the movie business, it will be around summer of 2006 at the earliest."
Wait a minute! isn't it around summer 2006 now?!...Perhaps E3 is around summer? It's getting hot I can tell you that much.
My final questions that I would hope all of you will answer in this thread are:
- Do you think Nintendo will present partly or entirely their venture into the movie business during E3 2006?
- Do the code names Hollywood and Broadway have any relation to this venture?
- Will this venture have anything to do with the Wii?
- Does Nintendo have a future in cinema?
JADE.
