Sony today threw a media-only party for its new platform character, Spyro the Dragon, and set the stage for its fourth quarter 1998 software strategy.
Vice President of Marketing Andrew House opened up the event with statistics of Sony's ominous and growing worldwide domination, and its overall plan as a mass consumer product. He went on to clarify that Spyro is part of the company's new category of key franchises. House also explained that Spyro, along with Crash: Warped, Rug Rats, and a Bug's Life are games he expects to compete with Nintendo's traditionally younger market, an area in which Sony's titles have been relatively shallow.
House also detailed several key points of Sony's fourth quarter advertising, marketing and cross-promotional plans, including deals with Pizza Hut, and new ads starring Toasty the sheep. IGNPSX will have a full story on Thursday on the entire event.
