There’s a lot of pressure from the fact that Druckmann wants to make the team proud. He can’t care less about what reviewers say, but he wants people working on the game to be proud of what they have made.
Uncharted has its own tone, and there was a process for Naughty Dog to get back into that tone after The Last of Us. After working on The Last of Us for three and a half years, it’s like a breath of fresh air to step away from that and to go back to the epic and spectacle.
Straley mentioned that there’s a large difference between demoing The Last of Us and Uncharted 4. With The Last of Us in 2013 it was heavy, talking about about all the things that they were trying to do and the philosophy behind the game. While they knew what they were after, they were also full of questions on how they were going to do many things in the game, and whether they were going to work or not. With Uncharted 4 they’re just “Wohooo! Yeah! Uncharted is Awesome!”
Straley is happy about where the studio is at, he’s really excited to talk about Uncharted 4, and it’s fun for him to play the demo, to be back to the heart of Uncharted and be like “right, we’re allowed to crank it to eleven, we’re allowed to just have a romp, an adventure, and be Nathan Drake again.”
Straley thinks that it just appears that they don’t innovate because they are making an AAA game, but there’s a lot of thought, discussion, and work behind it. He believes that it’s just a perception thing.
They don’t think much about the massive success of the PS4 and about the fact that it’s in the hand of many that never played Uncharted before. They’re just trying to make an awesome game.
According to Druckmann, the studio is trying to make a story that stands on its own, but it’s still a payoff to the games that came before it. If you haven’t played the previous games you’re still going to get a good experience, but if you played them all you’re gonna get that payoff as well.
Not doing Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection internally was an obvious choice, because the studio needed to focus solely on Uncharted 4.
A lot of the game is done now, but there’s a lot left to do, so now the focus is on getting the game done, but Straley is happy about the current state of the project.
The rope can be used in traversal, in problem solving, in puzzles or even inside an action set piece.
There are more new mechanics to show in addition to Jeep, the rope and what they already introduced, but they don’t yet know how they’re going to reveal them or even if they’re going to reveal them at all before release.

Bei Tlou2 könnte man 60fps wohl gar eher erreichen, da wird es wohl nicht nötig sein so Unmengen an verschiedenen Zeugs durch die Kante fliegen zu lassen, diese ganze Dynamic wird wohl hart an der Framerate saugen um sie zu jedem Zeitpunkt flüssig zu halten. Bin mir auch sicher dass man hätte 60fps erreichen hätte können, aber halt nicht zu jeden Zeitpunkt, gerade in den Szenen wenn die kacke richtig am Dampfen ist
