Sword Art Online: Lost Song story, new characters, and basic actions detailed

Bandai Namco has detailed the story, latest characters, and basic actions for its upcoming PlayStation 3 and PS Vita RPG Sword Art Online: Lost Song.

Get the details below.

Story

Having arrived at the floating city of Line, Kirito and the other members of his party encounter a guild by the name of “Shamrock” as they go about clearing a set of new quests that have gone online. As a guild composed of veteran players across myriad races, in the world of Alfheim Online, Shamrock is a guild that people can’t help but notice.

Arguably the most conspicuous of Shamrock’s members is Professor Sharvin Nanairo, who’s in reality a petite girl. Nevertheless, her looks are deceiving. An alumni of MIT, she’s appeared in the news a lot in recent times as genius girl wonder scientist and is conducting research on virtual societies formed within networks. Put simply, if Akihiko Kayaba, also known as Heathcliff, is the darkness belying the world of Alfheim Online, then Rainbow Arshavin is its light.

Indeed, it’s by meeting her that Kirito and company’s next great adventure is put into motion. Who’s to say what impact the genius scientist will have on their lives after everything is said and done?

New Characters

Seven (voiced by Hisako Kanemoto)
“It’s my wish to create a world without conflict.”

Seven is the Pooka avatar of Professor Sharvin Nanairo, the youthful Russian girl known for her genius in science. The leader of Shamrock, she and Akihiko Kayaba are often referred to as opposites. Her appearance in the game is the same as that in the real world.

Rein (voiced by Miyu Takagi)
“You’re even better than I thought you would be! Just what I’d expect of a real master!”

Rein is a Leprechaun character who, in spite of her dainty looks, is actually extremely proficient with Hide skills. An air of mystery surrounds her, as she has a habit of following Kirito and the others around. Though she has a stigma for being called a liar, there may well be more to her story that’s not apparent on the surface.

Sumeragi (voiced by Ryouta Takeuchi)
“Some players don’t even need words to make themselves heard.”

Sumeragi is an Undine swordsman who also happens to be the leader in practice of Shamrock. As Seven’s bodyguard, his strength is the real deal, having apparently even bested the legendary Demonic Sword Gram.

Basic Actions

Standard Attack – A basic attack useful for combos. You can connect these to strong attacks and sword skills.
Strong Attack – A more powerful attack. When used in combination with standard attacks, you can link them with sword skills.
Step – A step action that consumes stamina used to jump left, right, back, or forth to avoid enemy attacks.
Jump – A jump to reach enemies that might be a little higher than you. Mainly useful in dungeons.
Sheathed Sword and Drawn Sword – When your sword is sheathed, you can use magic, but when your sword is drawn, you can attack with your weapon.
Guard – An action to block enemy attacks. However, guards can be broken if the player takes too many hits.
Dash – A dash attack that consumes stamina. When you’re flying, this increases the speed of your flight.
Use of Skills – Skills are available for use with your basic attacks and steps. When you’re using a sword, you can use sword skills for sword-based magic attacks.
Switch – During the middle of your attack, you can initiate a “Switch.” This is possible both on the grund and in the air, and changes the opponent’s target from you to whoever you switch with.

Online Play

You can play in cooperation with other players through online multiplayer. You’ll choose which character you want to play and log-in to the tavern lobby. Up to 16 players can enter the lobby, and up to four can form a party and go out on a quest. Difficult quests yield higher rewards.

Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth details and screenshots: Omnimon, Goro, hackers, Digi-Lab, and Digi-Farm

The latest Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth media blast shares new details on Omnimon, new character Goro Matayoshi, new Cyberspace hackers, and the recently confirmed Digi-Lab and Digi-Farm features.

Get the full details below.

Nokia and Omnimon

The battle against the hackers is intensifying, and the Digimon are getting wounded. In order to protect the Digimon, Nokia, together with her Agumon and Gabumon, take a stand to restrain the hackers. When Nokia’s feelings for Agumon and Gaumon intensify, the Digimon change into their true forms

Omnimon (voiced by Chika Sakamoto and Mayumi Yamaguchi)

Omnimon, a Holy Knight-type Digimon and member of the Royal Knights born through the fusion of the Virus Busters WarGreymon and MetalGarurumon, via the earnest wishes of the people for goodness. It is a multi-type warrior with the characteristics with two Digimon. On its left arm, it has the shield and sword of WarGreymon, and on its right arm it has the cannon and missiles of MetalGarurumon.

Goro Matayoshi (voiced by Masaru Ikeda)

A veteran police inspector who refuses to retire after two years with the Police Department Cyber Crimes Investigation Unit. He has a serious obsession with “uncovering the truth” and even though he has mellowed out quite a bit over the years, he’ll use any means necessary to get to the bottom of things. His aggressive investigation methods got on the bad side of the higher ups, and he was “demoted” ahead of his retirement. He’s not well-versed on cyber-related knowledge. Since he knows Kyoko from when her dad and him were co-workers, he frequently visits her for advice.

Hackers Running Wild

Hackers who us Digimon to commit crimes appeared in Cyberspace. The hackers team up and start various conflicts to benefit their groups. The clash between the biggest gangs “Zaxon” and “Daemons” has heated up, and they’re running wild. The protagonists scramble to get the gangs under control before cyberspace collapses. And who is the mysterious figure working behind the hacker scene?

Jimmy KEN (voiced by Kouta Nemoto) – He was originally an executive of the hacker team “Zaxon,” but after deciding he wanted to do whatever he pleased, he and some other members left the group and formed the “Daemons” hacking team. Jimmy is its leader, and has a hand in various criminal acts happening in Cyberspace.
Fay (voiced by Seira Ryuu) – Part of the hacker team Zaxon’s executive staff. She has vowed absolute loyalty to the team leader and will purge those who go against the command of the group.

Digi-Lab and Digi-Farm

In the “Digi-Lab,” you can manage and train the Digimon you’ve obtained. You’ll have the option of “converting” Digimon, “evolving” and “devolving” Digimon, switching party member Digimon, and depositing Digimon into the Digi-Bank.

You can also leave your Digimon the “Digi-Farm,” a facility players can use to automatically level-up their Digimon when they’re not tagging along on their adventure. You’ll be able to select a Digimon leader, who will give your Digimon instructions in various areas like “special training,” “development,” and “investigation.” The efficiency of their actions will change depending on the leader Digimon assigned. Through “special training,” not only will your Digimon level up, but it’s also possible their parameters will increase. Providing farm goods will allow for more efficient special training. Through “development,” they’ll be able to produce items, equipment, and farm goods. And through “investigation,” they’ll be able to better support your detective duties in discovering sub-quests and wanted hacker information.

You can also feed your Digimon on the farm. By feeding them regularly, you’ll develop and deepen bonds of friendship with them.

Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth is due out for PS Vita in Japan on March 12.

PlanetSide 2 PS4 Closed Beta Approved, Goes Live in January 2015

With sign-ups going up earlier this month, Sony Online Entertainment President John Smedley has confirmed that the PlanetSide 2 closed beta on PlayStation 4 will begin either the week of January 13, 2015 or January 20, 2015.

Smedley revealed this news on Twitter, where he admitted they “tried hard” to get the beta out by the end of 2014. While that clearly didn’t happen, the PlanetSide 2 beta did pass Sony’s submission process on its first try.

More information about the beta, including how codes will be distributed, is set to be revealed next week.

XSEED Games registers domains for Corpse Party: Blood Drive, Xanadu Next, and Trails of Cold Steel [Update]

XSEED Games has registered various new domain names hinting at the localizations of several Japanese games.

The first domain, CorpsePartyBloodDrive.com, seems to suggest the PS Vita game Corpse Party: Blood Drive is headed westward.

The second domain, XanaduNext.com, seems to suggest Falcom’s recently announced Tokyo Xanadu is coming westward.

And finally, the company registered TrailsofColdSteel.com. None of the Japanese The Legend of Heroes games directly translate to this title, so it’s possible it could be one of the following unlocalized entries: The Legend of Heroes: Zero no Kiseki (Trails of Zero) The Legend of Heroes: Ao no Kiseki (Trails of Blue), The Legend of Heroes: Nayuta no Kiseki (Trails if Nayuta), or The Legend of Heroes: Sen no Kiseki (Trails of the Flash).

Thanks, NeoGAF.

Update: The domain LordofMagna.com was also registered, which suggests Marvelous’ Forbidden Magna is coming westward.

Yuna Yuki is a Hero: Memory of the Forest’s three game modes detailed

FuRyu has shared new details on its upcoming Yuna Yuki is a Hero game.

Yuna Yuki is a Hero: Memory of the Forest will consist of three game modes. It is set between episodes three and four of the TV anime, taking place between transfer student Karin Miyoshi’s initial appearance and the fight against the Vertex beginning. You’ll start by selecting your favorite hero to play as and proceed to go through the motions in “Story Mode” and “Mission Mode.”

In Story Mode, you’ll advance by fighting in the forest. The Valgo Vortex, having recently been defeated in the anime timeline, will rise up again and a mysterious girl will also unexpectedly show up in the forest, as only the heroes are supposed to be able to inhabit it. At the end of each chapter, you’ll then face off against a powerful Vertex enemy.

In Mission Mode, you can do time attack and combo trials, as well as challenge missions with various goals. New missions will appear as you advance through Story Mode, and clearing them will add new events to see.

Finally, there’s “Appreciation Mode.” Here, you’ll be able to view 80 events depicting the heroes’ everyday lives. You’ll see the girls in their summer, winter, and everyday clothes, expressing themselves in ways not seen in the anime. A bingo mini-game is also built into this mode, whereby clearing boards unlocks perks in the main game such as higher combo string limits and stat boosts.

FuRyu also shared details on the game’s limited edition. It includes a drama CD featuring a more comical side of the game’s heroes, a special booklet featuring game art, illustrations, and cast comments, a poster, smartphone stickers, a changeable case cover, and a special box art.

Yuna Yuki is a Hero: Memory of the Forest is due out for PS Vita in Japan on February 26. View a new set of screenshots at the gallery.

Saekano: How to Raise a Boring Girlfriend Is Getting A PS Vita Game By 5pb.

Saekano: How to Raise a Boring Girlfriend’s light novel has been ongoing for over two years now, and in addition to its
upcoming anime adaptation, it’s also getting a game by 5pb., according to this week’s issue of Famitsu magazine. [Thanks, Game Jouhou]

Just like in Fumiaki Maruto’s story for Saekano, you’ll play as the otaku protagonist Tomoya Aki and talk up various heroines while you develop a doujin game, and likely with the goal of selling it at the next Comiket.

By recommending all kinds of light novels, anime, and games that fit the heroine’s tastes, you’ll get to spend quality time together as you gather some data for the game you’re working on.

That said, since the girls have their own tastes, you might come across some disagreements and opinion-based clashes between the characters, which will be some of the game’s key moments. When the girls butt heads, it’ll be up to you to decide which one you’d like to support, and your choice will have an effect on the story developments afterwards.

The characters are shown in “Live2D,” so they’ll move around and look lively, as you work together and make an ideal doujin game.

Saekano: How to Raise a Boring Girlfriend will release in Spring 2015 in Japan for PlayStation Vita.

13 minutes of ‘2D Souls-like’ Salt and Sanctuary gameplay

VaatiVidya has published the first full-length gameplay video of Salt & Sanctuary, Ska Studios’ August-announced PlayStation 4 and PS Vita game.

According to the VaatiVidya preview, the game “legitimately feels like a 2D Souls game.”

“There’s block, parry, roll, light attack, strong attack, jump, guard breaks, a dedicated healing potion, and a stamina bar that works identically to those in the Souls games,” the video reports. “But the familiarity goes further than just controls. It’s in so many elements that of game’s design, and there’s so many moments in the game where things just click.”
