Letzte Warnung
Uncharted 4, as Hennig envisioned it, would introduce the world to Nathan Drake’s old partner, Sam. We hadn’t seen Sam in previous Uncharted games, because for fifteen years Nathan had thought he was dead, left behind during a Panamanian prison escape gone awry. In Hennig’s version of Uncharted 4, Sam would be one of the main villains, bitter toward Nathan for leaving him to die.
Over the course of the story, as Nathan tried to pull away from his roots as a treasure hunter, the player would find out that he and Sam were actually brothers. Eventually they’d heal their relationship and unify against the game’s real antagonist, a nasty thief named Rafe (voiced by the actor Alan Tudyk) who had served time with Sam in prison.
Some say the Uncharted 4 team didn’t get the staff and resources it needed to survive, because The Last of Us and Left Behind had vacuumed up so much of Naughty Dog’s attention. Others say that Amy Hennig had trouble making decisions and that the nascent game wasn’t shaping up very well. Some who were working on Uncharted 4 wished that there was a more cohesive direction. Others thought it was perfectly understandable, considering how small the Uncharted 4 staff was, that the game hadn’t coalesced yet.
Several people who have worked for Naughty Dog say Druckmann and Straley stopped seeing eye-to-eye with Hennig, and that they had fundamental disagreements on where to take the Uncharted series. When Hennig left, she signed a non-disparagement agreement with the studio that would prevent both her and Naughty Dog from making negative public comments about what had happened, according to people familiar with the arrangement.
This is gonna be The Last Jedi of Video games isn’t it?
If the world you set up is so one-dimensional that it inevitably leads to the characters being mass murdering monsters, that seems like you should take a step back and look at how you designed the world.
Does a single good person live through this game without their life being ruined?
Definitely. I know Druckmann didn't write some of this dialogue lol, it's like Halley crafts some beautiful scenes with this engrossing dialogue and wonderful exchanges and Druckmann just pops in, "Wait a minute, are you enjoying this?" and then he punishes the character with some abrupt shift in tone into some dark shit.
"Let's be dark and edgy, maim, mistreat and punish our characters, because it'll be really cool and the shock value would be awesome."
Let's not focus on making a serviceable story, let's fuck over our core audience for the sake of these dark tones.
TLOU ain’t the type of game you play just for the gameplay. 80% percent is the story and it just isn’t it. Maybe the fact that we waited so much put our expectations really high but maaaan. That game isn’t it !
Have to say that I wish anyone talked at all in this game.
*Isaac finds Abby and Lev*
Isaac: THAT'S A SCAR, WE HAVE TO KILL THEM
Abby: Lev is a good person
Isaac: I'LL KILL YOU TO KILL THEM
*Isaac gets shot and killed by one of his men who then are shot and killed*
*Abby then massacres a lot of people she used to work with*
Like... there should have been other ways of handling this situation?
Lev weighs like three pounds, what kind of threat does Isaac think Lev is.
Just what an insane escalation just so that Abby can cause dozens to hundreds more deaths.
I don't understand the point of this ending other than cruelty.
"Look at the great life Ellie is going to throw away to pursue revenge that she... immediately backs off of."
This is the spoiler thread right?
okay so I decided not to play TLOU2.
I loved TLOU and I thought it was a perfect blend of storytelling, characters and environments married to just serviceable gameplay... and I didn’t need a sequel. The ending was perfect. There was no reason to revisit Ellie and Joel.
I read a review that said the new game is 25 hours long and focuses even more on that gameplay loop that I found just serviceable and described the story as something akin to as depressing as Apocalypse Now. So I just read the story spoilers.
And I kind of feel like TLOU really did end perfectly and didn’t need a sequel.
But I have questions for people who know the ending...
in the game Ellie mows down and stabs and kills and takes the lives of at least 100 men and women (who are not zombies) on her basic revenge quest, taking them from
their families without a second thought ...(number based on what I’ve seen in the review videos of stealth takedowns)...but then in the end
spares the life of the person she was getting revenge on?
?
Has ludinarritive dissonance popped up in any of the discussion or does the game adequately address that?
Abby doing what she did to Joel after he saved her is bullshit. She could have killed him quickly and got her revenge.
