XOne/PC Scalebound

4 Jahre harte Arbeit für die Tonne. Extrem bitter für die Entwickler.

Work on the game took a serious knock last autumn, Eurogamer sources say, when several senior members of the development team were forced to take a month away from the pressure of the project's heavy workload.

These project members then returned, but Scalebound was now behind schedule. With continuing issues surrounding the game's engine and overdue deadlines, the decision was made that the project could no longer continue.

Ich hoffe Platinum übersteht das.

Shinobi: Yea, heard it's been canned. Super rough development, milestones missed, payments stopped. Kamiya stressed as hell.

"If you look at the long span of it, the first idea [for Scalebound] was when we started the company and were thinking of ideas and games that we want to make," Kamiya said. "The idea popped up there, but then we made Bayonetta. Then after Bayonetta, we revived the idea and made a prototype but that prototype failed and the game got cancelled. It was put on a backburner for a variety of reasons and we moved on to The Wonderful 101. "

Towards the end of development on The Wonderful 101, the studio began talking about what to do next. Kamiya revived and revised his pitch for Scalebound; the game as we know it today has been in development for about two years. But before that, the game was pitched as title for the Wii using motion controls and featured dinosaurs under the control of a little girl.

"When they first started, the idea was for a Wii game and we wanted to use a Wii remote to do the orders for the dinosaurs," Kamiya explained. "You were in control of the dinosaurs, you were ordering the dinosaurs around, and they'd do cool things. Then after we made Bayonetta, we started the prototype. The first thing that I made a change to was making it a dragon game.

"We changed the dinosaurs to dragons, but at that point the lead character was even weaker than [current protagonist] Drew is in the context of Scalebound," he continued. "She was actually a little girl who was with these dragons. As we were making this prototype, I realized that I didn’t want to just be watching the fight, I wanted to be more participatory in the fight. And I started talking with the staff about how maybe we should change this to be a swordsman or someone a little bit older. This was when the prototype got put on the backburner, so to speak, and the project was halted. Then we made The Wonderful 101."

After careful deliberation, Microsoft Studios has come to the decision to end production for "Scalebound." We're working hard to deliver an amazing lineup of games to our fans this year, including "Halo Wars 2," "Crackdown 3," "State of Decay 2," "Sea of Thieves" and other great experiences.

After years in development, the Microsoft Studios exclusive "Scalebound" has been canceled.

Built by Platinum Games, Microsoft just confirmed to us that Scalebound's development has ceased and that the two companies have parted ways.

Scalebound was set to be an action RPG with 4-player co-op, where players formed bonds with gigantic, customizable dragons. Microsoft Studios has a pretty packed line-up for 2017 already, with State of Decay 2, Sea of Thieves, Halo Wars 2, and Crackdown 3 in the pipeline. However, Scalebound's closure will disappoint many, as it represented the only known "AAA" Action RPG experience in Microsoft's exclusive portfolio for the near future.

The statement we received from Microsoft reads as follows.

When I spoke to Hideki Kamiya and Jean Pierre Kellams about Scalebound back at E3 2016, the pair seemed enthusiastic about the project and its future. Scalebound's social media went dark in September, and rumors began to swirl of development issues at Platinum Games, famed for games like Bayonetta.

Microsoft said that they have great respect for Platinum Games and that Scalebound's cancellation came down to "business decisions."

I asked Microsoft if they felt there was now a gap in their line-up after the loss of Scalebound, but they told me that Crackdown 3, Halo Wars 2, Sea of Thieves, State of Decay 2, as well as unannounced "experiences" are still on the way for 2017. Microsoft said they feel that their portfolio is very strong for 2017 "and beyond," offering clues to future unannounced projects.

How do you feel about Scalebound's cancellation? Were you hoping to pick it up? Let us know in the comments!

 Naja, wenigstens MS ist zuversichtlich für 2017. Ich halte das bislang für Easily The Worst Lineup In Xbox History!! Zumal abzuwarten ist, was man mit Crackdown 3 schlussendlich abliefert.
