PlayStation 5 led the month’s hardware market in unit and dollar sales, with Xbox Series ranking 2nd across both measures. July 2024 is the first month with year-on-year growth in video game hardware spending since the 2% increase seen during December 2023.

Accessories

Consumer spending on Accessories grew 4% in July when compared to a year ago, to $184M. Leading the year-on-year spending gains for Accessories were the Remote Play Device segment (PlayStation Portal), and Gamepads (+6% versus a year ago).

The PlayStation Portal was the best-selling accessory in dollar sales for both July and 2024 year-to-date. In units, the best-selling accessory of both July and 2024 year-to-date was the PS5 DualSense Wireless Controller Midnight Black.

While console has historically remained niche in China, despite the overturning of the console ban in 2014, the PlayStation 5 is selling 2x faster than its predecessor in the country and has become an established platform alongside the Nintendo Switch. A limited time deal on the PlayStation 5 that is running this week has led to a surge in sales for the console that further cements these changing gamer preferences in the market.

Wukong drives PS5 to Top of Alibaba Tmall

(Bloomberg) -- The release of China’s biggest PC game to date, Black Myth: Wukong, also sparked an unusual buying spree for Sony Group Corp.’s PlayStation 5.

The PS5 jumped to the top of Alibaba Group Holding Ltd.’s list for electronics game equipment in the week leading up to Wukong’s Aug. 20 release, doubling its sales from the same period a year earlier. Playable on the Sony console as well as on PC, Wukong was top of Alibaba’s Taobao hot search on launch day and enticed gamers to buy new hardware in a market where mobile gaming typically reigns supreme.

Its popularity on consoles has yet to be quantified, but the early indication from these bumper PS5 sales in China — where consumer spending has been stunted for months — suggests the frenzy around the game is widespread.

Das wird leider zu entlasungen führen, weil man lieber Trends hinterherlaufen wollte.

Aber ich glaube das war Sony bewusst, als sie schon. Bungie gekauft haben, dass das Spiel eine Totgeburt wird...

Glaube nicht, dass sich der PC Entwickler aus China von einem kleinen Konsolenhersteller wie Sony kaufen lassen wird, vor allem nicht nach dem Erfolg auf PC.

Mech Warrior ist bißchen wie Armed Core auf BigMäc Diat. Langsam, schwerfällig und mit putzigen Animationen eines Marshmallow Mann.

ich glaube wir unterschätzen echt arkham shadows. das sah ziemlich geil aus.

Schade dass es bzgl. „schwerfällige Mecha Games“ Chrome Hounds nicht mehr gibt. Wir haben dass Jahre aktiv im Clan gesuchtet.

War eines der besten MP Games für Fans davon und man konnte so viel an Setups auffahren und in die eigene Team Strategie integrieren. Hab meine Version natürlich noch.

findest du? Ich fand das ziemlich billig. Aber gut, abgesehen von Alyx scheint das wohl einer der Höhepunkte im VR Gaming zu sein (was mal wieder nicht für VR Gaming spricht)

From Software hat noch so viele IPs die sie nutzen können. Zum Glück haben die Armored Core wiederbelebt, hat aber auch ne gefühlte Ewigkeit gedauert. Mal schauen ob Chromehounds noch irgendwann drankommt (ja, die IP gehört nicht Sega).

Weil die Reise in den Westen unheimlich beliebt in China ist und Wukong praktisch chinesische Mythologie ist.

Alter Vater! Weil das Spiel gut ist und Fun macht. Ich glaube, was PS5 angeht ist das das Goty2024. Sieht zumindest besser aus als alles was von Sony und seinen eigenen Studios kommt.
