Square Enix to Debut World of Mana
Upcoming Japanese event to showcase mystery title.
by Anoop Gantayat
July 11, 2005 - Square Enix has opened up a page detailing the plans for its upcoming game festival, the Square Enix Party 2005. While we already detailed the set of games set for display at the Japanese event, the page contains one new surprise: World of Mana. This mystery title, a successor in the Mana (Seiken Densetsu) series of games, will appear in video form. There are lots of rumors running around as to what World of Mana might be and what system it's due for -- some say it's the previously confirmed Seiken Densetsu for DS, others that it's an online title for any one of a number of systems, and still others say it's a wide-ranging project of inter-connected Mana games across multiple consoles.
World of Mana seems to be alone in its video-only state. The page confirms previous reports on the massive list of playable titles set for appearance at show. Attendees will get hands-on time with Final Fantasy XII, Kingdom Hearts II, Grandia III, Heavy Metal Thunder, Code Age Commanders, Fullmetal Alchemist 3, Slime Mori Mori Dragon Quest 2 and Dirge of Cerberus. That's right, all of these games will be playable. Final Fantasy XII, in fact, will have a whopping 200 kiosks (which will hopefully limit the lines to only a couple of hours).
In a bit of worrisome news, the page does not have a listing for Final Fantasy VII Crisis Core, the new PSP entry in the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII series (the PS2 game, Dirge of Cerberus, will be there). We're hoping to see a surprise showing from the game -- at least as much as what was at E3, even if it is just another video.
Be sure and turn to IGN on 7/30 and 7/31 for full coverage from the Square Enix party. In the meanwhile, assuming you can put up with Japanese characters, check out the Square Enix party website.
