Yesterday, Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle creative director Davide Soliani participated in a Reddit AMA. Fans were able to ask the developer all sorts of questions. Soliani touched on interest in making sequel, teased the upcoming DLC, confirmed that a new patch is coming this month, and more.
We’ve collected many of the relevant responses from the AMA below. You can read the full thing here.
On sequel interest…
I would love to, and I would be honored to ?
On the upcoming DLC…
Let’s say that we are keep working hard to surprise the players. We cannot announce anything yet, but the DLCs are coming out pretty soon and it will contain a lot of love and surprises. Also, the first DLC to come out will contains a lot of challenges that will keep you busy for a while.
On what he knew about Switch when first developing the game…
When we started developing Mario+Rabbid Kingdom Battle we had no information about the switch at all. We were just focusing into creating a great game. Then, when we realized what was the Switch, we smiled, because it was perfectly fitting our vision and intention ?
On a cut mechanic…
Ahah, yes. At some point I was about to develop a special mechanics around a Rabbid WHOMP, but then we decided to remove it. Maybe one day… ?
On how the team recreated the Mario characters…
We kept iterating night and day till we tough that we were able to find the right balance. Really, we discarded so many test that I can’t even remember all of them. Artists hated me ?
On any future Nintendo / Ubisoft crossovers…
Who knows. I would love to.
On how they went about building the game…
When we started, we built a paper design prototype to help us playing the game we were imagining only with some dice, a pen and paper. Indeed, it was a challenge, especially because we tried to make a tactical turn based game, looking like an action game, with some Mario Kart alchemy.
On issues like input lag and freezing…
We identified all those issues and solved them. We already prepared a patch that will be released mid October. Thanks for your patience.
On having Mario and one Rabbid as mandatory characters…
We wanted to focus the attention on the possible sinergy behind the use of Rabbid characters and Nintendo Characters. Also, was normal for us to use Mario as a leader of the group, since we are in the Mushroom Kingdom. Rabbids are too chaotic to not have a leader guiding them.
On Rabbid Peach…
We always wanted to create such a character. Her true personality, come out when we were creating the Pirabbid Plant cinematic. I asked the animators to add a scene were she was not caring at all about the enemy beating her, and she cared only about taking a selfie ?
On pitching the game to Nintendo…
I’ll be honest. I was scared at presenting the idea to Miyamoto San, but it went very well. I think he was able to read in our souls and see the passion behind the team. We really worked hard for this game.
