On Aug. 18, the Japanese website Da Vinci News, posted the results of a survey asking 230 people under 40 who they thought was “the strongest enemy in the history of One Piece“.
The results are as follows (explanations are based on the explanation given by Da Vinci News):
No. 1 : Marshal D. Teach (Blackbeard)
Teach apparently won first place by a great margin. This Devil Fruit user of the Dark-Dark Fruit not only pursues his own self-interests, with no regard to the brutality or cruelty of the methods needed, but even went as far as to put his own life on the line to obtain what he wanted. A true pirate! Unsatisfied with his own Dark-Dark Fruit, which is said to be history’s “most evil” Devil Fruit, but he also went out to hunt for, and steal, other Devil Fruits. He even holds two Devil Fruit powers himself.
No. 2: Admiral/Fleet Admiral Sakazuki (Akainu)
The man looking to exterminate all pirates. His unwavering, extreme view on justice, paired with his magma-magma devil fruit, make him quite the blazing enemy to anyone he deems “evil.” This includes Portgas D. Ace who was killed by Sakazuki himself during the Paramount War arc, resulting in a sudden increase of “Akainu Haters” on the net.
No. 3: “God” Eneru
The main enemy of the Skypiea arc. This Rumble-Rumble Devil Fruit user can generate 200,000,000 volts in his attacks. He can also read his enemies attacks using his so-called “Mantra” abilities, or even jumpstart his own heart using a thunder strike. His only weakness: non-electricity conducting materials such as rubber**. Apparently a number of fans are hoping for a comeback later in the series.
No. 4: Donquixote Doflamingo
The head of the Donquixote family, former Warlord of the Sea who believes that “Justice is determined by the victors.” With his rather special appearance, you wouldn’t think he’s a pirate at all. He can control threads coming from his body using his String-String Devil Fruit with which he can control things and people alike and even move around in the sky. He is also known as the “heavenly demon,” as well as “Joker, the broker from the underworld.”
No. 5: Admiral Borsalino (Kizaru)
This No. 2 strongest villain in the Marines after Akainu has a very yakuza-looking appearance. Surprisingly, he’s actually quite an aloof character. He nearly killed Luffy at one point using the powers of his Glint-Glint Fruit with which allow him to shoot out beams of light to attack his enemies or even to move around quickly.
Further down the ranking were Crocodile, Buggy, Arlong, etc..
While it is always interesting to hear who some Japanese people think are the “strongest” in One Piece, we would also like to hear from our readers who they think would be the strongest in their mind. Remember: a lot of enemies from X years ago most likely didn’t spend their time after getting beat doing nothing, so assuming a certain power boost is always a possible argument!
So who do you think is the most powerful One Piece villain?
