TeamXbox schrieb:PlayStation Network: An Xbox Live Killer?
By: César A. Berardini - "Cesar"

Last month, an article on PlayStation Magazine (PSM) propelled a fierce discussion across gaming forums after it revealed some of the supposed plans Sony has for the yet-unnamed PlayStation 3 online gaming service.
A developer who wanted to remain anonymous told the magazine that Sony is committed to match the current Xbox Live feature by feature and then some. That some would imply a one big PlayStation network that will go beyond gaming and include other forms of digital entertainment, with the PSP and other Sony technologies playing a key role in that assault.
Until we see everything up and running, its easy to deflect the comments as yet another hyped-up claim by Sony, but what if it happens to be true?
Sony is an 800-pound gorilla to reckon with and only an Xbox fan boy could underestimate the power of this international conglomerate.
So, what if Sony is really developing a big entertainment network that matches every Xbox Live feature and adds new capabilities that only Sony, with its big infrastructure, can develop?
We decided to sit down for a moment, put aside our love for the Xbox, and think about the real possibilities Sony has in developing an Xbox Live Killer.
Before continuing, we thought itd be interesting to discuss the name Sony could choose for its next-generation online service.
Potential Names:
* PlayStation LIVE: This would obviously be inspired by Microsofts online gaming service and would try to capitalize upon the success of that brands name. Unless Sony is ready to commit marketing suicide by straight out copying their chief competitors brand, this is the least likely of the choices.
* PlayStation Media Network: This has been rumored to be the actual name that Sony will use for the upcoming service. Just like Sony avoided the use of the term game in its PlayStation computer and entertainment system, the upcoming service will be oriented to digital entertainment, with online gaming being just one of its many features.
* PlayStation Matrix: This one would again be a rip-off based on the Wachowski Brothers movie and gives the service that moniker that characterizes Sonys hyped-up terms: Emotion Engine, Broadband Engine, Reality Synthesizer, PlayStation Matrix!
* PlayStation World: This would be an option based on current generations name. You know, live in your world, play in ours. Totally out of date.
For readability purposes, well use the PlayStation Network from now on, but our sixth sense tells us the final name will be one of the two first names discussed above.
The State of Things
Speaking of the undeniable success of Xbox Live, Kutaragi, the creator of the PlayStation, commented, Beating us for a short moment is like accidentally winning a point from a Karate master, and Microsoft is still not black belt.
Besides Kens expected favoritism, he has a valid point. The PlayStation 2 is the best-selling console of the current generation with more than 100 million units sold worldwide. North America, which could be considered Microsofts own camp, is the largest market for the PS2 to date with sales over 40 million units. On the other side, in Japan, Sonys territory, Microsoft is struggling even worse with the Xbox 360 than it did with the original Xbox.
Despite the success of Microsoft over its competitors, things wont change dramatically in the next-generation, which already started with the launch of the Xbox 360. Plus, the one big advantage that Microsoft had over Sony, being first to market, was lost due to the Xbox 360 suffering production shortages.
After E3, the ground will shatter as the PlayStation 3 launch date is unveiled. No one, not even Microsoft, will be able to stop the PlayStation 3 launch and you can bet it will be successful. Sony will sell, not matter the price, PS3s like hot cakes; here, in the old continent and obviously in Asia.
So thats how things are for each company. Having discussed the current state, lets explore a few facts about Sony Corporation so we can later discuss Sony Computer Entertainments possibilities in developing an Xbox Live killer.

Network User Interface Programmer
The Wipeout Team are looking for an experienced Network User Interface Programmer to take control of the lobby, ladders and other client/server front end systems. The candidate must have good C/C++ skills and at least one published title. Knowledge of HTML, Java, Tomcat & JSP is a requirement and experience with SCE-RT would be an advantage.

The other big problem we found out in Microsofts strategy is the decision to make the Xbox 360 a Windows Media Center Extender, instead of making it a Windows Media Center in itself.
Also ich denke Sony wird wohl was zeigen.
TGS = Taipai Game Show (oder so)

IMHO kein so toller Zeitpunkt.
