Das hat doch in Resident Evil 4 auch niemanden gestört.Einzig das auffällige Flimmern stört -

QuelleFinal Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers is a curiosity, to say the least. Not really an RPG, it eschews the cooperative multiplayer trappings of the previous games for a more action-oriented experience. With Crystal Bearers due later this month in North America, I sat down and played the first hour of the English build, where I found a variety of gameplay types at hand. Crystal Bearers is set in the Crystal Chronicles world, though it takes place far in the future of the earlier games in the series. Magic has apparently been outlawed in favor of science, and one of the four original races is extinct. "Crystal Bearers" refers to fighters like the main character, Layle, who are granted powerful abilities by the crystals that they carry.
The first hour of Crystal Bearers features what I would call "action vignettes," which put Layle's powers to use in a variety of ways. They're short, easy, and all make reasonably good use of the Wii Remote, in some ways making the game feel more like a collection of minigames than anything else. The action kicks off early on, with Layle forced to defend an airship from a flock of winged attackers, eventually diving off the airship to battle in midair.
The sequence that followed reminded me a bit of Sin and Punishment 2, as I had to point and shoot at the enemies all around Layle as he fell through midair. For the most part, the shooting mechanics were fun, with the only real hindrance being that the pointer could feel a bit sluggish at times. When finished, I wish was given a final time, implying a chance to better it later on.
I got a better impression of the game's main mechanic once I landed and entered a central station area. Layle's abilities are based around gravity, which means spending a great deal of time yanking things with the Wii Remote. Activating his power is a simple matter of pointing with the omnipresent remote and holding down the B button. Once the power is charged up, it's possible to pick up blocks from a distance, toss foes, or catch wayward ferrets (one of the goals in the station area).
Layle's powers are also put to good use during the second action vignette, in which I had to pull down pillars and rocks to slow down a pack of chocobo-riding soldiers chasing me. Later on, in the first dungeon, I was able to use those pillars to leap from platform to platform with relative ease, though it left me with the curious sensation of not really having control over my character. It also took center stage once enemy monsters finally showed up, though its use in combat was easily the most awkward and uninteresting of its applications.
When monsters appeared, my options were to grab a nearby rock and toss them at my foes, or pick up one of the monsters themselves. The latter tactic would be interesting if I were using gravity to swing them into other monsters, but for the most part, I was just tossing them into the air and letting them land for damage. It appears that more abilities are unlocked as time goes on, but still, the combat felt a bit shallow.
Consequently, actual combat feels a bit like a weak link in a game where the "action vignettes" were fairly entertaining. Not longer after finishing the dungeon, I was basically turned loose to begin exploring the world at large, so hopefully the wide variety of experiences that I had in the first hour are the norm rather than the exception. As it is, with what appears to be a large world to explore and a variety of missions to complete, Crystal Bearers could be an entertaining departure from the standard Crystal Chronicles formula.
