I want to make a few points and would be happy for anyone to chime in.
The Playtest is undoubtedly linked to the successor. Yes, it will be involved with Switch 1 too but the main system that will benefit is the successor. I think the Gamecube NSO cloud streaming is possible and makes sense. Have the download option for Switch 2 and have it as a selling point. The reason I am bringing this up is because I've seen some completely dismiss the possibility it's linked to the Successor.
Regardless, it seems Nintendo at worst will have a direct on the 23rd. This could be for Switch 2 or Switch 1 solely. This will contain more information on what the playtest is about. Major NSO updates do come in Directs after all.
I am more certain than ever that on October 23rd we see the successor. Based on the information we have no one can say they fully expect the launch in the Holiday of 2025. It is more likely than not a first half of 2025 launch and this means the reveal needs to come before the financials.
To entertain the idea of a reveal on October 23rd: Why is Nintendo having the play test begin on a Wednesday? A day prime for announcements and directs in the past. Why not start on Monday or Friday of that week? Simple, Nintnedo will make some sort of announcement on that day. Based on all the information we have I believe it will be the long-awaited successor reveal. If not then I expect it to be a Direct that will at least show games for early 2025 and talk about NSO. However, this is super unlikely at this point as it would suggest a late 2025 launch for the successor and we have nothing that points to that. The opposite in fact.
At this point, I think we can all agree unless I am missing something that IF the successor is revealed at all in 2024 then Nintendo has pinpointed that date for us. It can only be October 23rd (22nd announcement of the reveal)
