Wieder eine Geschäfskette in den USA die nur noch Blu-Rays verkauft

JULY 26 | East Coast chain BJ’s Wholesale Club will drop HD DVD from its shelves and carry the Blu-ray Disc format exclusively by the fourth quarter, according to sources at the retailer and several Hollywood studios.

Sources said the chain will carry Blu-ray exclusively at all its 170 stores, although it continues to carry both formats on its Web site.

A spokesperson for the chain didn’t immediately return calls for comment.

BJ’s' move follows Target and Blockbuster, both of which have announced they will increase the presence and support of Blu-ray in stores. Both chains, however, will continue to carry HD DVD movies to some extent.

Nintendo may introduce Blu-ray enabled Wii


An unsuspecting informant accidentally stumbled upon a Blu-ray enabled Wii while visitng Nintendo's R&D facility. Apparently the bathroom wasn't that easy to find.

While searching for the bathroom, the unnamed informant took a wrong turn Willy Wonka style and opened the wrong door. Upon entering the room, he noticed a small group of Nintendo employees (engineers?) watching a movie on what looked like a Nintendo Wii. The informant recounted the details to the Sarcastic Gamer, but made it unclear if the movie playing abilites were a hardware add-on, a software upgrade, or a brand new Wii model. Regardless, he took several mental notes about the situation:

* The remote control to control movie playback attached itself to the Wii-mote nunchuck style.

* The drive slot glowed blue while the disc was in but faded to black when the disc was removed

* The Nintendo employees quickly ejected the disc and placed it in what was undeniably a Blu-ray disc case

* There was an extra Wii channel titled "Wii Watch" emblazoned with a Blu-ray logo

This discovery comes after Nintendo's Reggie Fils-Aime hinted at an upcoming surprise for the Nintendo Wii during a Gamehead interview. "The surprise is coming," he teased, "by the end of September."

"I can't help but wonder," says the Sarcstic Gamer, "if Sony's Peter Dille knew about this upcoming feature roll out when he made his now famous 'HD-DVD dead within months' claim a short while ago."

Der Krieg zwischen Blu-ray und HD DVD tobt seit langer Zeit, und auch Experten werfen sich gegenseitig Vor- und Nachteile des jeweiligen Formats an den Kopf, ohne dass es zum Durchbruch für eine der beiden Seiten kommt.
Zeit also, auf Leute zu hören, die wissen, wie das Herz des kleinen Mannes auf der Straße schlägt: Bei einem Einbruch in den Laden des DVD-Händlers Silver Platters in Seattle ließen die Diebe sämtliche HD DVDs unberührt und nahmen ausschließlich Blu-ray-Scheiben im Wert von 7.000 Dollar mit. Und wenn sie nicht völlig zugedröhnt waren, werden sie auch gewusst haben, wieso.

False alarm: Target's not giving up on HD DVD

As noted on Engadget HD the other day, and further clarified by Major Nelson this morning, that story about Target going exclusively Blu-ray was false. Turns out they're just installing Blu-ray aisle end caps, thanks to a new promotional deal with Sony, but HD DVD isn't going anywhere. Hopefully you haven't chucked out your HD DVD collection just yet in a concession to defeat at Thursday's "news," but if you have it's always good to know you can score replacements at your local Target, just like always.

Du meinst Sony-Praktiken? ;-)

Ich finde es wirklich verwunderlich wie viele Gemeinsamkeiten die beiden HD-Formate mit den beiden Konsolen von Ms & Sony haben. Es lassen sich fast alle wichtigen Punkte 1:1 auf die Konsolen übertragen. Zunächst mal die Blu-Ray:
  • Blu-Ray hat mehr Kapazität == Die PS3 hat mehr Power als die X360
  • Blu-ray Laufwerke sind leiser == Die PS3 ist leiser als die X360
  • Blu-Ray ist technisch ein neuer Ansatz == PS3 ist technisch ein neuer Ansatz
  • Blu-Ray ist das teurere Format == Die PS3 ist die teurere Konsole
  • Blu-Ray hat höhere Datensicherheit == Die PS3 geht nicht so schnell kaputt wie die X360
  • Blu-ray ist das kompliziertere Format == Die PS3 Hardware ist komplizierter
  • Blu-Ray hat theoretisch mehr Möglichkeiten == PS3 hat theoretisch mehr Möglichkeiten (offener Onlinemodus, Blu-Ray, Festplatte, M/T, etc.)
  • Blu-Ray fehlen dafür eigentlich wichtige Features (Picture-in-Picture, LAN) die dafür nachgereicht werden == PS3 fehlt Rumble, wird eventuell nachgereicht
  • Bei der Blu-Ray bekommt man mit größerem Aufwand im Prinzip das gleiche wie mit der HD-DVD hin == Die PS3 schafft mit größerem Aufwand ebenfalls das gleiche wie die X360
Sieht so aus als wäre die PS3 wirklich eine Kopie eines Blu-ray Players! ;-)

Der einzige Unterschied:
  • Blu-ray ist erfolgreich == PS3 ist bisher nicht erfolgreich
  • Blu-Ray genießt einen guten Support == PS3 har bisher einen schlechten Support
Damit wäre auch bewiesen: Die PS3 ist in Wahrheit kein Blu-ray Player! Verblüffend, oder um es anders zu sagen: Die Blu-Ray ist echt "Sony-style"

Laut dem amerikanischen Händler Amazon haben sich die Verkaufszahlen des Xbox 360 HD-DVD Laufwerks kurzzeitig um mehr als 1.000% seit der gestrigen Preissenkung auf $179,99 erhöht. Dem Angebot liegen bis zum 30. September 2007 zusätzlich fünf HD-DVD Filme bei.

HD DVD: Fight or Quit (Preferably Quit)

Let’s take a moment to push for the end of the pointless war that nobody wanted; the costly quagmire that’s drained resources and consumed the media with its constant, bloody scrimmages.

In the past few weeks, Sony’s Blu-ray next-generation DVD format has enjoyed several victories over Toshiba’s rival HD DVD: Target will sell only Blu-ray players this holiday season. The East Coast chain BJ’s Warehouse Club will exclusively sell Blu-ray titles. Steven Spielberg announced he will release his first movie in a high-def format, “Close Encounters of the Third Kind,” on Blu-ray. The Japanese porn industry has embraced Blu-ray. Even thieves robbing a Seattle store cleaned out its stock of Blu-ray discs, leaving HD DVD titles behind (how sad, chortle the bloggers, HD DVD movies are not even worth stealing).
Coming shortly after Blockbuster’s announcement that the chain will mainly stock Blu-ray titles, the headlines paint a portrait of pending HD DVD doom. All that's left is a period of Toshiba desperately hanging on. The face-saving final efforts. The company’s fingers slipping from the edge of the format-war cliff and blissfully falling into Betamax oblivion.

Trouble is, rooting for a Sony win feels like cheering for a fighter throwing low blows when the referee’s not looking. Sony stuffed 4 million overpriced PlayStation 3 units with similarly overpriced Blu-ray players and leveraged its relationship with studios to monopolize distribution of key DVD titles.
Just as important, but little noticed, is that Sony has been wildly effective at generating headlines declaring Blu-ray victories—even when the triumphs are modest. BJ’s Warehouse Club? Japanese porn? “Close Encounters”? Minor accomplishments that are killing HD DVD. When consumers think Blu-ray has won, it has.

This isn’t to say Blu-ray isn’t winning in less superficial respects. See this big brick wall of blue? That’s how often Blu-ray titles topped HD DVD in a variety of sales categories on Amazon.com. The week of July 22, Blu-ray captured 74 percent of high-def disc sales to HD DVD’s 26 percent, according to Nielsen VideoScan. Not good.
Toshiba has sold more stand-alone players, mainly because Blu-ray players cost $999 earlier this year and are still currently overpriced at $479. HD DVD players have dived to $243, and Xbox 360’s add-on HD-DVD units now sell for $179. Many consumers are snapping up Toshiba’s reasonably priced high-def player to accompany their new HDTV set without realizing the carnage-filled battlefield they’re stumbling onto.
“Every time Sony pulls a press prank, HD DVD counters with a price drop,” smartly notes one of many HD DVD fans on AVS Forum. But Toshiba is nearing the bottom for DVD player pricing, while Sony has a long way to go.
Recently a research company predicted the high-def format battle will continue well into 2012, with both sides evenly splitting the market. This nightmarish conclusion ignores the real sentiment driving the war’s end game: Studios don’t want two formats. Retailers don’t want two formats. Consumers don’t want two formats.
And when studios almost entirely align under Blu-ray, retailers begin exclusively stocking Blu-ray products, customers prefer Blu-ray titles, and the press writes stories of Blu-ray victories … then HD DVD really is wasting time hanging on the cliff’s edge.
Toshiba needs to start generating some victory-lap “press prank” headlines of their own—or let go.

nee nee solang nicht n paar wichtige studios wie disney multi gehen werden die sich niemals noch mal davon erholen

und wie im letzten absatz schon stand,alle haben sich endschieden....die studios wollen keine 2 formate,die geschäfte wollen keine 2 formate,die kunden wollen keine 2 formate...nicht mal die diebe wollen 2 formate :lol:
 
Ein neues Knight Rider, hatte vor Jahren mal was gelesen das ein neuner Teil geplannt ist, mal sehen wie der sich in der aktuellen Ramake Ausschlachtung von Hollywood mache wird......
