SPUs have general purpose capabilities, they can basicly do anything, so there's really no limit to the compression schemes you can implement on them:
CLUT, jpeg, S3TC,DXTC,Huffman, Lempel-Ziv, wavelets, arithmetic coding, etc..
At the same time most of this algorithms might not maky any sense, every application needs to carefully pick up an algorithm that is best suited for a specific task.
