PS3 Yakuza 3

eurogamer 8/10

For a game that could well have been overlooked for a Western release entirely, the removal of a few minor elements, while frustrating, is a small price to pay. What remains is a relentlessly enjoyable action-RPG, which offers a unique insight into Japanese culture despite its exaggerations. The Western version of Yakuza 3 might have suffered a few heartbreaking cuts, but it's still intriguing at every turn and shouldn't be missed.

295 minutes watching cut-scenes is but one in a long line of extraordinary completion requirements. More than 20 hours, a completed main quest and countless side missions yielded me less than 10 per cent completion.

Yakuza 3 sets its own pace with its heartwarming story about modern day Japan. And beyond the lovingly created Shinjuku pastiche lies a well-crafted fighting game that can hold its own. Colour us impressed.

SEGA Exec 1: Those barbaric westerners keep asking us to release "Ryuu ga Gotoku 3" in their country. What should we do? We can't say that this game is tailored specifically to our fellow Japanese's refined taste and culture. They can't possibly understand it.
SEGA Exec 2: Ignore them. What can they do? Probably just post on some lame message board begging for it.
SEGA Exec 3: We can't do that. It'd damage our company's international reputation......or whatever's left of it.
SEGA Exec 2: Oh, I know! Let's release it then but let's give them the UGLIEST cover we can come up with.
SEGA Exec 4:

Genius idea! Let's cover Kazuma's face with ratings or something and give it a tacky red background.
SEGA Exec 1: You guys are awesome! But that's not enough! What else can we do to screw them over?
SEGA Exec 4: Why don't we cut out contents from the game? Then we claim that we don't have enough time to translate those parts. Don't forget to mention that we want to bring the game to their country sooo much that we feel that it'd be better if we just release the game with cut contents.
SEGA Exec 1: What else? We need more ideas, people!!
SEGA Exec 3: Let's release it at the same time as other PS3 releases. That way it'd get ignored by most barbaric westerners. Say.....almost the same time as "FFXIII"?
SEGA Exec 2: Let's release "Resonance of Fate" around the same time as well.
SEGA Exec 3: *high five* That'd teach those damn dirty westerners some manners.
SEGA Exec 2: When "Ryuu ga Gotoku 4" comes out, they won't beg for "Yakuza 4" anymore. Hurr hurr.
SEGA Exec 1: You guys are getting a raise. Now, who's up for Bukkake?
:lol::lol::lol::lol:

Computer and Videogames Review
9/10

IGN Wertung

7.5 Presentation
You’re going through a lot of text-heavy menus with little flair. I wish some CGI cutscenes didn’t go to in-game cutscenes to come back to CGI cutscenes.

8.0 Graphics
The in-game environments can look so-so and NPCs could use a bit more detail, but the fights look great and the cutscenes are phenomenal.

7.5 Sound
I have no idea what people are saying, but it sounds really good and I like the music. The one English voice in the game is terrible, however.

8.5 Gameplay
You’re brutally beating people in the streets of Japan. It’s awesome, but it can feel stale at times. Toss in a bunch of other mini-games and side quests, and you’re set.

9.0 Lasting Appeal
It took me 20 hours to beat the story and the stat screen said I had only done 11 percent of everything I could do. Adventure mode, premium playthrough, karaoke bars – all of this is there to explore.

8.5
Great OVERALL
(out of 10 / not an average)

If wrote about everything in this game, you’d have a 10-page review on your hands, but the long and short of it is that Yakuza 3 is a great experience. The story’s cool, the fighting’s fun, and there’s so much to do. (Did I mention beating it opens up an adventure mode, fighting tournament and other goodies?) The game is rough around the edges – it has issues when it comes to pacing and repetition, the Japanese-only voice track will turn some people off, and it does look like a game that’s been out awhile -- but all of these issues are just bumps in the road on what should be an enjoyable ride for folks looking to beat in some faces and wander the streets of Japan.

Also weniger geschnitten als befürchtet.

Beispiele:

Love's Cupid? The Brewer's Treasure? I Wanna Go to Tokyo??
A Trip Before Marriage, aka the return of Akimoto and Mizuki.
