The Windows XP Media Center PC
The all-in-one home entertainment solution from Microsoft.
June 10, 2005 - Convergence has been a buzzword for quite some time now, but it's with the Windows XP Media Center PC from Microsoft that buzz may have finally become reality. By connecting all of your home entertainment gear to your Windows XP Media Center PC you get all of the convenience and high quality audio and video you want in one convenient package.
It's built on Windows XP Service Pack 2, so that means the Windows XP Media Center can give every member of your household a unique username that will be connected to his or her audio and other media files. Nowadays you can easily connect your PC to your home theatre surround sound system and high-definition television, so every single audio or video clip you've got on your PC is at your fingertips waiting to be brought to life on your already-existent audio/visual setup.
The DVD-burner is built right in to the Windows XP Media Center PC and it means other programs like Movie Maker and the Media Center's digital video recorder system will work seamlessly with each other. After being able to pause, rewind, record and save live television with the DVR functionality, you can take those clips into Movie Maker, re-edit your masterpiece and burn the whole thing onto a DVD.
What do you do if you have several TVs and only one Windows XP Media Center PC? With the Media Center Extender you can send the entire home theatre experience to any TV you have in your home. With remote controls to make the whole thing functional, it'll be the easiest way to get the most out of your PC and your television.
Xbox owners already know about expanded possibilities of gaming when you connect the console to a Windows XP Media Center PC, but with Xbox 360 right around the corner, everything is going to be seamless and high definition. The new videogame console from Microsoft is already poised to deliver the best experience in gaming, but additional functionality like shared playlists and automatic updates are all going to be enhanced when you connect the 360 to your Media Center. Streaming music right from your hard drive to your Xbox 360 while playing Project Gotham Racing 3 is just a taste of what you can expect.
The Windows XP Media Center PC will support on-demand video functionality so you'll always be able to watch NEW stuff when you want with the press of a button and without adding another set-top box to your home entertainment system.
The Media Center connected to your home entertainment system will replace several set-top boxes in your living room but without sacrificing any functionality with all of the cool gear you have already. This includes not only your audio system and television but any portable entertainment devices you may have lying around. Take everything you want out of the house by quickly plugging your music or video player into the Windows XP Media Center and you'll be on your way.
