Valkyria: Azure Revolution Details On The New Villain And Battle System

Sega recently shared a peek at a villain from Valkyria: Azure Revolution named Maxim, and this week’s issue of Famitsu magazine also has some additional details on the battle system and more. [Thanks, Hachima.]

Maxim: A young officer who was born on the lands of the Empire, but was discovered by the Claudius Empire and has become an officer. After being part of a human experiment that involves having “Ragnite” in his body, he has become a soldier with exceptional hexing powers called 咒術 (Jujutsu).

Here are details on the LeGION System that you’ll get to check out in the demo:

1: Mission Start

The two available missions are “Morda Practice Battle” and “Morda Conquest Battle” in the demo.

2: Battlefield Movement & Long-Distance Attacks

Players control the characters directly. Long-ranged attacks are done by shooting or using a sub-weapon on enemy symbols. While moving, it’s possible to hide behind sandbags and shadows by pressing the Circle button. R1 is used to shoot while L1+Square is used to attack from long-range with a sub-weapon. If the attack hits, you’ll enter proximity battle with an advantage.

3: Enter Proximity Battle

For proximity battles, you’ll use four buttons to attack enemies using arms and hex (Jujutsu) attacks. During battles, certain situations change the feelings of allies and enemies, and they play a big role in how the battles play out. For example, long-ranged attacks can surprise enemies, which affects the way they react, giving you an advantage in the fight.

When a party member’s HP hits zero in combat, they enter a dying condition, where a countdown to death begins. If you can manage to rescue the party member before it hits zero, they’ll be saved, but if they do die then they can’t be revives.

There’s a system that seamlessly switches the field and battle BGM. As for the demo, it seems likely that it will be available as a download on the day of Valkyria Chronicles Remaster’s release in Japan of February 10, 2016.

Valkyria: Azure Revolution Introduces Brigitta Ulrich, Blum Thomason, And Helena Andersen

Sega revealed the latest details on Valkyria: Azure Revolution with details on three new characters of Brigitta Ulrich, Blum Thomason, and Helena Andersen in this week’s issue of Famitsu magazine. [Thanks, Otakomu.]

Yassm7I.jpg

Brigitta Ulrich:

Age:27

When Vanargand came to be, Brigitta decided to take an aptitude test to join for her love of country and justice. While she didn’t score too high, she was allowed to join because they saw the potential in her. Since she was raised in a house of teachers, she’s quite the serious and intellectual character, but they say that she’s completely different while holding a gun.

Vanargand is a unit that was made to fight against the Empire’s Valkyria. The “Ragnite Elite” have members that were selected based on their Ragnite suitability, used for Hexes, and were chosen even if they didn’t have military experience. Each member uses magic weapons that were created with Ragnite, and they each have enough power to go head-to-head against tanks.

Blum Thomason:

Age: 18

Blum is from the shopping district area of Jutland’s capital, Elsinoa. He’s known for his manual dexterity, and has played with items that use Ragnite. He was forced by his childhood friend Helena into taking the aptitude test to join Vanargand.

Helena Andersen:

Age: 18

Helena is the pretty girl of a cafe at the capital Elsinoa. She takes the aptitude test for joining Vanargand in order to save her country. Helena hates losing and has a strong sense of ambition. She gets a bit annoyed upon finding out that her childhood friend Blum scores higher on the test they took together.

Valkyria: Azure Revolution will release in Japan in winter 2016 for PlayStation 4.

Valkyria: Azure Revolution details Brigitte, Blum, Helena, and Anti-Valkyria Unit

Sega has updated the official website for Valkyria: Azure Revolution with details and screenshots of new characters Blum, Helena, and Brigitte, and the Anti-Valkyria Unit “Vanargand” first introduced in the latest issue of Weekly Famitsu.

Get the information below. (Note: While the character descriptions are translated from what is published on the official website, the descriptions published in Weekly Famitsu are much more detailed.)

Blum Thomasson (18, Vanargand Private)

A childhood friend of Helena. A quiet boy with a kind, gentle personality. He is not very strong physically.

Helena Andersen (18, Vanargand Private)

A childhood friend of Blum. A girl doted on by her parents and raised to be super positive and super confident. She possess unbeatable strength and is very ambitious.

Brigitte Ulrich (27, Vanargand Sergeant)

A former instructor. She is serious, and a staunchly intelligent who sometimes seems cold, but is good at taking care of people. She is like another person altogether when she holds a gun.

Anti-Valkyria Unit: “Vanargand”

lH88mOx.jpg

An elite unit formed to oppose the Rus Empire’s Valkyria. Its official name is the “Anti-Valkyria Unit,” but it is widely known as the “Vanargand.”

The unit is composed of only those suitable for Ragnite regardless of military experience. It is formed of the “Ragnite Elite” from all over the country.

Originally lacking in mineral resources and because of the recent economic blockade, the Jutland Kingdom is facing a Ragnite shortage. The scarce amount of Ragnite from within the country is collected and, with the country’s natural technological ability, used to create and deploy “Magic-Ready Weapons” (Ragnite Weapons).

As might be expected from a unit assembled to oppose the enemy Valkyria, it exhibits tremendous power against Magic Machines (tank-like vehicles) and armed forces, and is naturally the Jutland Kingdom’s Elite Unit with the strength of a thousand men.

Additionally, Sega has released official playthrough videos of the Valkyria: Azure Revolution “Battle Demo Ver. 1.0” included with Valkyria Chronicles Remastered in Japan. We’ve already added them to yesterday’s story with footage from the demo.

Finally, a 4Gamer.net report on the demo confirms a “Battle Demo Ver. 2.0” is planned for launch in summer 2016. Sega has yet to announce how users will be able to acquire the demo.

Valkyria: Azure Revolution is due out for PlayStation 4 in Japan this winter.
