Disc Golf
If you've been dying to try Wii Sports Resorts' 'disc dog' (frisbee), well, you actually won't need to wait for the title to release. That's because Tiger 10 for Wii boasts an exclusive disc golf mode that is essentially the same thing with the same controls, but in our experience it's deeper. EA revealed at EA3 that you will be able to play disc golf on all 27 courses in the game. We tried our hand it and adore it.
Disc golf is like golf, but with a frisbee. You've got three different discs -- a driver, a medium range and a so-called putter. The goal is to traverse a course and glide your disc into a basket that is the equivalent of a pin. That's it. The great part about disc golf in Woods 10, though, is that the experience is fully complemented by MotionPlus. To say that it works triumphantly would be an understatement. It controls perfectly. You simply point at the disc with your Wii remote, pick it up by pressing a button, and then every subtle movement you make with your wrist is represented on-screen by a virtual hand that holds the disc. If you twist your wrist around, it'll do the same. If you pull your arm back for a backhanded toss, it'll do the same. If you angle upward or downward, so will it. All with a very precise, one-to-one feel.
Needless to say, we never thought we'd be having so much fun tossing what is essentially a virtual frisbee around a golf course -- we could walk outside and do the same thing -- but the technology works so well that it nurtures an addiction. At first, you'll want to play simply because your motions are translated so accurately. But after the novelty wears off, you'll keep going because it's just too much fun. The inclusion of disc golf in the Wii build is just another in a growing list of reasons why the Nintendo iteration is the one to get this year, hands down.
