A Greed and mysterious girl (?) who calmly wanders the Other World. She’s well-regulated with androgynous features, but her actual nationality, gender, and age are unknown. It’s not even known if she’s human.

One day, she stumbles outside of the Other World and suddenly appears before Kou. As one eligible for it, she gives Kou the chance to manifest his Soul Device.

While she can often be seen appearing around Kou for assistance, at times she only appears to observe Kou’s actions as a bystander, so her true intentions are not clear.

She seems to have knowledge about something called “Xanadu,” but…

Setting

Station Square

EEY7neq.jpg

A vast, public space connected to Morimiya Station, located in the center of Morimiya City.

As a city access point, a swarm of people go back and forth through the square regardless of day or night. There’s a giant arch-shaped monument that acts as a famous meeting spot and symbol at the center of the square.

Various transportation facilities are gathered here, including the Tama Monorail, bus stop, and railroad. There are also big-name retailers like “Star Camera” and “Orion Library,” where a number of students drop by to shop after school.

Morimiya Shopping District

A community-based shopping district that gives off a traditional feel. You’ll feel its antiquity when passing under the “Morimiya Shopping District” arch. There are grocers on both sides of main street, a butcher, hardware and smith shop, sports suppliers—a number of small shops all linked together where you’ll find a full selection of life’s necessities.

Kou’s friend Ryouta’s parents run the Ibuki Fruits and Vegetables Shop located in the district, as well as the area where old friends of Kou and Shiori live.

Tokyo Xanadu is due out for PS Vita in Japan on September 30.

Sony’s Shuhei Yoshida Spells Strategy To Boost Japanese Indie Game Scene
ShuYoshida-ds1-670x377-constrain.jpg

Today, Sony Computer Entertainment Worldwide Studios President Shuhei Yoshida held the keynote speech at Bitsummit in Kyoto, and during the panel he mentioned a three-fold strategy to boost the popularity of indie games and indie developers in Japan.

The first point involves publishing a lot of good indie games from overseas in Japan. Japanese gamers are not yet used to buy games digitally. Releasing good games every week helps breaking them into that market.

The second part of Yoshida-san’s strategy is to have famous Japanese developers tackle the western market and to bring back historical IP. Keiji Inafune, Yu Suzuki and Koji Igarashi were brought as successful examples. According to Yoshida-san, there are many western gamers that have grown with Japanese games, and will gladly buy those old and glorious IP if they’re brought back to life.

Finally, the third part of the strategy involves Japanese indie developers tackling the virtual reality market with content only they can make. Japanese gamers are used to the idea of playing with virtual reality characters and idols, while many westerners still find it embarrassing. Yoshida-san thinks that Japanese indie developers can really do great in this space if they approach the worldwide market with confidence.

Yoshida-san also mentioned during his keynote speech that Japanese indie market developerd a bit late compared to the rest of the world, but now it’s doing well.

Bitsummit is proving to be definitely interesting due to the breadth and variety of content showcased by the many indie developers at the show. It’ll be interesting to see if Yoshida-san’s strategy will be applied and will really manage to boost the Japanese indie scene.
