Tokyo Xanadu confirmed for PS Vita [Update 2]

Falcom’s upcoming action RPG Tokyo Xanadu is a PS Vita title, the latest issue of Dengeki PlayStation reveals.

The game is set in the fictional “Morimiya City” located in the Tama district on the outskirts of Tokyo. The protagonists attend Morimiya Academy and get caught up in an otherworldly incident, and with it, a major conspiracy.

Dengeki PlayStation details the first two characters:

Kou Tokisaka (Protagonist) – A 17 year-old second year high school student. Though brusque in his mannerisms, he’s not unfriendly towards others and is an archetypal modern day student all around. He uses a sword whip and specializes in mid-range attacks.
Asuka Hiragi – Kou’s classmate. She has an attractive face and figure, quick reflexes, gets excellent grades, and is class president. Though on the outside, she looks like a typical heroine… She wields a one-handed sword and specializes in close combat.

During the game’s modern parts, players will explore areas like the school and shopping district to trigger events before heading to the spirit world to progress the story. During spirit world parts, players will explore labyrinth-like areas and fight against enemies using weapons known as “Soul Devices.”

On February 26, Falcom will release a Tokyo Xanadu custom theme for PS Vita users to download.

Tokyo Xanadu is due out in Japan later this year.

Thanks, Hachima Kikou.

Update 8:00 a.m.: New details have come in from Weekly Famitsu’s via Sokuho@Hokanko.

First, more character and world details:

When the protagonist sees a new transfer student getting into a fight with some delinquent students, he goes over to help them. But at that point, he’s met with a strange vision of a girl retrieving a shining sword.
Asuka is a returning student from overseas. She’s secretly investigating incidents related to the spirit world on orders from an organization that possess the Soul Devices.
The spirit world isn’t normally detectable to normal people. The protagonists are able to do so after a certain catalyst is triggered.
The game is set in a slightly different rendition of Tokyo from the real thing, thus the kanji for ‘kyo’ being different.

Next, tidbits from an interview with Falcom president Toshihiro Kondo:

We’ve acquired a lot of know-how in developing the Ys and Trails games, but we wanted to try out a different field.
So far there’s been Zwei!! and Nayuta no Kiseki, but we wanted to tackle a different title.
The younger staff are taking the initiative of project planning and development.
While the entire staff hasn’t changed, the young members are putting work into the costumes and setting.
The game is a modern era/other world RPG where players will go on an adventure to solve mysteries and incidents.
Action parts have a free-control camera.
We also have jump actions.
We’re considering things like targeting systems to make the game easier to play.
The foundation of the game is made up of modern day adventure parts and other world action parts.
They’re proactively designing the game such that players are better able to enjoy the story.
Falcom’s attention to detail on town NPCs (e.g.: their backstory, movement patterns, etc.) remains present.
We have a number of main characters, more so than the Ys series’ six characters.
We have a large number of modern day characters. People that enjoy the teenage character style will take kindly to them.
Tachikawa is the main setting in Morimiya City. It’s a town made up of a variety of spots in the Tama district on the outskirts of Tokyo.
The city of Tachikawa is coordinating with the development team on events and merchandise.
Launch is scheduled for after summer 2015. The main scenario is almost done and we’re currently toning up the action parts. I have no doubt we’ll release it by the end of the year.
The voice cast will be announced before long.
Production is progressing smoothly.

Update 10:47 a.m.:
The first scan has surfaced.

Tokyo Xanadu first screenshots, details

Falcom has launched the official website and released the first screenshots for Tokyo Xanadu, its upcoming action RPG confirmed for PS Vita earlier this week. Additionally, the release of the latest Dengeki PlayStation brings new details not covered in our previous story.

Catch our summary below.

Prologue

17 year-old Kou Tokisaka is your everyday high schooler who lives in Morimiya on the outskirts of Tokyo. One his way back from work one late night, though, in an old part of town, he finds himself caught up in a certain “incident….”

Meanwhile, having returned from overseas and transferred into school in April, Asuka Hiiragi is an attractive girl with an affable, friendly personality who’s made for a popular class president. That doesn’t stop her from getting caught up dealing with a group of brash delinquents who try to take her somewhere, though.

Catching sight of this, Kou follows them off to a back alley. It’s there that he’s met with the sight of a beautiful, yet horrifying space, as well as that of the delinquents practically eaten by an indescribable monster known as a Greed.

And then from thin air emerges “her” pulling out a blade that shines a blue light….

Kou Tokisaka

“…Dammit, just when I’m done with work, too.”

His parents are spending an extended period working overseas, meaning that he lives alone starting that spring. Unaffiliated with any school clubs, he helps out at a number of part-time jobs and in spite of his personality on the face of things, when he sees someone in trouble, he’ll stick his neck out to help them, which is known to land him in trouble, as is the case when he sees Asuka that fateful night. His weapon/Soul Device (see below) of choice is the sword whip “Anchor Gear,” which can also be thrust forward when attacking.

Asuka Hiiragi

“I’ll say it one more time. Don’t go inside any more than you already have.”

Asuka is Kou’s classmate and a returnee from the US. Though she has the treasured trifecta of good looks, great grades, and superb reflexes and is well regarded and trusted by her fellow students, it’s all merely an act. In reality, every night, on orders from an organization in possession of Soul Devices, she investigates incidents related to the Other World.

Greed

Greed are creatures that wander the labyrinths of the Other World, their true identities unknown. Coming in a variety of types, shapes, and sizes, they don’t, however, grow and reproduce like normal living creatures; they’re instead believed to be extradimensional spirits, possibly the creation of someone. Normal weapons from the real world are ineffective against them; only Soul Devices can hurt them.

Soul Devices

Special armaments that those with ties to the Other World can manifest. Possessing myriad possible forms, no two Soul Devices are alike. Specially made up of spirit particles and materials from the Other World, it’s effective at dealing damage to the Greed, as normal physical attacks otherwise do little to them.

Eclipse

An Eclipse is a phenomenon where the real world and Other World overlap at special Gates. Due to something going on in the real world, the Other World appears in the form of labyrinths where they house the Greed. Normal people remain unable to recognize it, relegating stories of it to the realm of things like unsolved mysteries, unnatural disasters, and urban legends.

Xiphone

Hx5Dqep.jpg

Popularized around a decade prior to the start of the game, Xiphones are personal information terminals that, like smartphones, also have communication capabilities. They’re additionally capable of tapping into social networks and have games, which have made them hugely ubiquitous. Perhaps most importantly of all, they can provide synchronized verification of their owner’s physiological data, which can be used across a variety of services and security systems that are in development in the game’s world. Unlike real smartphones, though, they have a mysterious gear below the screen that makes them stand out.

Ray Gigant teaser trailer, screenshots, and details

Bandai Namco has gone up with the teaser trailer, first screenshots, and official details on its newly announced, Experience-developed PS Vita dungeon RPG Ray Gigant, due out this summer in Japan.

Find the details below.

Prologue

Near future, June 20XX. In every city throughout the world, giant monsters known as Gigants appear.

Military resistance from each nation ends in wasted effort, but in Tokyo, one boy is able to defeat a monster. His name is Ichiya Amakaze. To do this, the boy used an unknown power called “Yorigami.”

But after defeating the Gigant, the boy’s power runs wild—and in the end, the city is destroyed and the boy loses consciousness. But one young man saves him and transfers him to a safety zone.

Three Heroes

03aQK6k.jpg

The story of Ray Gigant is told in chapters from the perspective of three heroes.

Ichiya Amakaze (voiced by Atsushi Abe) – A 15 year-old Japanese boy who stands at 175cm in height. He’s a wholesome and fine young man who grew up in an ordinary suburban family. But when Tokyo is destroyed, he has his awakening.
Kyle Griffin (voiced by Wataru Hatano) – A 17 year-old British boy who stands at 180cm in height. He was born to a distinguished family and is very intelligent. But he was not blessed with the love of his mother, and grew up to have a twisted personality.
Nil Phineas (voiced by Yoshino Nanjo) – A 16 year-old girl of unknown nationality and who stands at 165cm in height. She is naive and simplistic, but is also trained in Gigant warfare. She works each day almost as a vigilante to protect the various islands of the Caribbean Sea from the Gigants.

Comrade Characters

3Vre6ps.jpg

Each chapter will have two comrades accompanying that chapter’s protagonist. These are the comrades of Ichiya Amakaze.

Mana Isano (voiced by Rumi Okubo) – A nice and caring girl and the childhood friend of Ichiya since elementary school. They currently attend a Tokyo junior high school together.
Miwa Kazuomi (voiced by Takuya Eguchi) – A serious young man that Ichiya can rely on. Early on in the story, he even opposes against Ichiya, but after understanding his true strength and suffering, they become close friends.

Gigants

Uysn2Qt.jpg

The enemies that Ichiya and company fight are known as Gigants. Each Gigant is designed after an ancient god beast. From huge bosses to weaklings, there are Gigants of all types. Their true identities are that of alien invaders from space. On Earth, they’re trying to eradicate human civilization and life.

Theme Songs Per Chapter

As this game’s story unfolds in chapters, a theme song will be provided for each chapter. Singing the theme song of Ichiya’s chapter is T.M. Revolution. Singing the theme song of Kyle’s chapter is Faylan. And singing the theme song of Nil’s chapter is Yoshino Nanjo.

Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth details and screenshots: Mirei and Rina, Tower Records, more Royal Knights

The latest set of Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth information and screenshots introduces more of the Royal Knights, returning Digimon Story Re:Digitize Decode characters Mirei and Rina, and a collaboration with Tower Records.

Get the information below.

The threat extends to the real world! The gates of the Real and Cyber Worlds are finally open!

The strange happenings occurring in the Real World have an adverse effect on the Cyber World. When the world crisis reaches a climax, the Royal Knights emerge in the Real World from the Digital World.

The decisive battles will be taking place in the real world!

The Royal Knights show up in the human realm, intent on wiping humanity out!

The Royal Knights are split up into two factions as they make their entrance into the human world with a bang. One of them, led by Leopardmon, is intent on erasing humanity to ensure the safety and stability of his own world….

Leopardmon (voiced by Norio Wakamoto)

Leopardmon is a highly respected tactician, even within the ranks of the Royal Knights, capable of keeping the others in line despite their disparate beliefs. He’s also effectively the one behind the Paradise Lost Project, pushing its progress ever forward. The type of commander to take to the battlefield himself, in combat, he roams the battlefield in his Leopard Mode. Once his true objectives become apparent, a new battle begins.

Dynasmon (voiced by Koji Haramaki)

A Digimon with the abilities of a flying dragon, Dynasmon is known for his peerless strength thanks to his dragon-like power and high purity Chrome Digizoid dragon armor. His loyalty is strong, serving absolutely under a lord whose ideas of justice line squarely with his own. Even if who he’s serving could be described as evil, he’s still willing to lay down his life if it means upholding his moral code of justice. Therefore, his spirit of chivalry is strong, and his loyalty and faith, as well as his etiquette, are well respected and as such has joined up with Leopardmon.

Kentaurosmon (voiced by Keiji Hirai)

With its beast-like silhouette, one could describe him as something of a grotesque, strange-looking creature. Boasting high defensive power thanks to his “Red Digizoid” body armor, it’s difficult for even Mega level Digimon to damage Kentaurosmon. With his six legs, he has excellent mobility, and can move at unimaginably high speeds for his size. Although he has a strong distrust in humans, he does not join up with Leopardmon, but instead acts independently.

Craniamon (voiced by Yukitoshi Hori)

The most civil and courteous Digimon in the Royal Knights, Craniamon is a prideful perfectionist. His mission success rate when it comes to assignments doled out by Yggdrasil are among the best within the Royal Knights, a real contender for first or second place. Blindly one to do as he’s told by Yggdrasil, he goes along with Leopardmon’s Paradise Lost Project.

Examon (voiced by Yuusuke Handa)

A Digimon that possesses such a tremendous mass of data that it was previously impossible for Examon to be rendered using old digital equipment. It’s only been with new technology that the issue has finally been rectified. Although he’s a member of the Royal Knights, he’s also the top dragon type Digimon, therefore going by the nickname “Ryutei” (Dragon Emperor). He appears during the Real World invasion with Leopardmon and the other Royal Knights, but after an unexpected ambush, he loses his mind and begins to run wild.

Mastemon

When an unprecedented crisis visits the Digital World, an angel type Digimon and demon type Digimon join hands in an unprecedented DNA digivolution into Mastemon, an angel type Digimon. Mastemon possesses a special power tied to the gates of other Digital Worlds. With the ability to freely manipulate both the powers of light and darkness, Mastemon can lend her power to Digimon in a variety of situations and makes for naturally a formidable foe herself.

Mysterious Girl Who Traverses the Cyber World

Mirei Mikagura, voiced by Miyuki Sawashiro, is a woman who lost the data of her natural body after an accident and thus becomes able to travel to the Cyber World. Her true home and age are unknown. She has seemingly traveled to various Cyber Worlds (Digital Worlds). She manages the Digi-Lab and provides the protagonist with a variety of knowledge not known to regular Real World inhabitants. She and Kyoko Kuremi appear to be old friends on the surface, but….

Super Positive Girl

Rina Shinomiya, voiced by Haruka Tomatsu, is a resident of a Real World different from this game’s Real World. She’s apparently gone adventuring in the Digital World with Veemon before, but it’s otherwise unknown how she will affect the story.

Veemon, voiced by Aiko Hibi, is Rina’s partner. She calls him Vee-Vee and looks at him as a nice younger brother, while Veemon looks at her as a no-good older sister.

No Music, No Life

At Tower Records in Shibuya, trouble and mischief are frequent occurrences. Cyber Sleuths who visit the shop will be greeted by the bright and cheerful Reiko Towa, with whom they can investigate mysterious incidents.

Reiko, voiced by Ayana Taketatsu, is Tower Records’ teenage employee. She has a straight-laced personality, is fashionably dressed, and occasionally changes her hairstyle. She enjoys a wide range of music and anime.

Etemon, voiced by Yasunori Masutani and the self-proclaimed “King of Digimon,” will appear in the shop at some point. He has his own song that he has absolute confidence in, and has a scheme to spread it across the human world.

La-Mulana EX hits PS Vita next week

La-Mulana EX will launch for PS Vita next Tuesday, March 3 in North America and the following day in Europe, Pygmy Studio announced.

The archaeological ruins exploration action game tasks players with exploring ruins and discovering treasure while solving riddles without falling foul of the monsters and traps blocking their way.

The PS Vita version adds a number of new features, as indicated by the “EX” in the the title. New additions include:

Monster Bestiary - The new Monster Bestiary is where you can check out details of every monster you slay and character you meet. It’s useful to read, but you’ll also get to see some wonderful art for the creatures in the ruins.
Gameplay - La-Mulana lets you go almost anywhere you like from the start, which can be a bit daunting to some. When we first started developing La-Mulana EX, the plan was to have two modes: the original version for returning players, and a revised adventure that was more accessible for new players. However, as time went on, we decided to bring both versions together in a way that improves the experience for everyone.
Tweaks - his doesn’t mean we’ve made La-Mulana EX easier. Trust me, it’s still just as challenging as ever — it’s just also more accessible for those who might be too scared to enter the ruins otherwise. The signposting is improved, some of the puzzles and obstacles have been altered slightly (Don’t rely on your memories if you’ve played the game before!), it’s now possible to undo the Hard Mode curse if you want to, and so on.
Languages - We’ve even added more languages (French and German, on top of English, Spanish and Russian) and improved the old translations, so now even more people can enjoy La-Mulana than ever before.
