I have seen the Revolution. I am not going to provide how I know this information, what company I work for or any explanation at all in relation to this information. Why? I have seen some people that claim to know about the Revolution give the most detailed explanations on why people should believe that they are telling the truth but I don't see why they bother. The skeptics will say I'm a fake, the believers will not. Anyone can come up with some impossible to prove excuse and claim they work for any company, so let's just skip that and get to the information, shall we?
Will the Revolution be good? I think it will be fantastic. However the fan base has blown the Revolution WAY out of proportion. You will not be getting the On. I wouldn't put it past Nintendo in the future but I can assure you that the Revolution will hook up to your TV just like the GameCube, the On does not exist. The Revolution will come with your standard connections to get the console up and running on a television, a wireless controller and the console itself. That is it. You can buy an optional connection to connect it to a computer monitor though. It isn't finalized yet but I am 99% sure that due to the extreme reaction to the announcement that the Revolution will NOT support HD Nintendo has changed their mind. It should be supporting HD thanks to all of the websites and fans speaking their mind.
The controller...I'll bet you really want to know don't you? Well it is similar to the GameCube controller in shape, but there are many changes. Here is a list of changes from the GameCube controller to the Revolution:
The L & R buttons have changed shape and are now more sensitive (the GameCube L & R buttons only had two levels of sensitivity.)
The controller shape has slightly changed to be more comfortable and support the new features.
The C-Stick has NOT been changed to a track ball. It has been slightly enlarged for easier use.
The Y & X buttons have changed shape.
Two triggers have been added to the back of the controller, one on each side.
The controller will feature gyroscopic motion sensors that can register even small amounts of movement in any direction. Some people think this will mess with the game because you could accidentally move the controller and it would affect your character. That is not the case because some games don't utilize the function and you can adjust the sensitivity levels in-game in case your hands shake slightly or you just feel it is too sensitive. Also it will feature directional rumbles that can knock the controller in any direction. Some games will utilize tilt resistance which causes the gyros within the controller to counter-balance your movements creating a feeling of resistance.
The Revolution will be able to connect wirelessly with the Nintendo DS to transfer demos, movies, songs and to unlock bonus content in certain DS and Revolution games.
The joysticks can now be pressed and function similar to the PS2's Dual Shock controller.
The controllers will be wireless, but a wired controller can be purchased separately at a reduced price. Some games where you must rotate the controller will not function properly because the cord would wrap around the controller.
Now, how about the games? I haven't seen much about these but I can confirm that it is VERY likely that Resident Evil 5 will be heading to the Revolution. Contrary to popular belief Kid Icarus is not in development...though there is a lot of talk about starting such a project. I have no information on the new series Nintendo is planning. The next generation of Mario Kart is in development and it is NOTHING like the arcade version that was recently made by Namco. Eternal Darkness is also just a rumor, it is definitely not being developed and currently there are no plans to pursue it. The new Zelda game is still in the conceptual stage with no real work accomplished yet (which should be obvious considering Twilight Princess is still being developed.) The only game I really have some concrete info on is Super Smash Bros. Revolution. I have seen some footage of it and I can confirm that all of the old fighters return (except a few of the unlockable characters in Melee.) And I also saw a few of the new fighters which include: Waluigi, Wario and Andy from Advance Wars. I know there will be more but that is all that I have seen. I haven't seen anything on Super Mario 128 sadly...I'm really looking forward to that. I don't have all the info on every Revolution game coming out nor do I have the time to fill you in on all the ones that I do know about. I gave you those little bits of info mostly to dispel some of the rumors out there, but this post was mainly made to inform you of the Revolution.
You will be getting some information at TGS but a full unveiling is doubtful. It will be by the end of the year though, just as Nintendo said. The Revolution will be a sight to behold. And just so that you can set your minds at ease the Revolution WILL be about equivalent in power to the XBox 360...but it will be MUCH easier and cheaper to develop for. Not to mention the fact that you get the amazing controller.
If any of you are wondering why I am just revealing this info now and why I am revealing it here I have some simple answers for you. Quite frankly I was just granted access to this info VERY recently (big mistake on my company's part it appears!) And I actually have a funny story about why I revealed it here. Well I have been a huge fan of Nintendo so I have been following the Revolution as close as any of you. So I have been viewing all the rumor blogs and websites. I found the updates posted by Kevin to be the easiest way to keep track of all the latest Revolution news. What better way to return the favor than to drop a huge bomb like this right on the very website that was previously supplying me with the news, now I can help supply them with news! Oh and by the way, as far as I know the Revolution will not change its name. Kind of how the Nintendo DS was supposed to change names but never did.
