During the Consumer Electronics Show 2006 held last week in Las Vegas, Nevada, it was revealed by a BBC article that Nintendo had apparently purchased an undisclosed number of Z800 3D visors produced by a company called eMagin. Afterwards, speculation spread across the Internet about the possible use of eMagin's technology in Nintendo's next-generation console, code-named the Nintendo Revolution.
Revolution Report recently contacted eMagin's Media Spokesperson Joe Runde to help clarify the matter. According to him, "This rumor is based on information taken out of context. A number of companies have bought 3DVisors for evaluation, especially since we published our SDK in December. Those companies' names we will not disclose."
Although Nintendo may be using eMagin's product for research and development purposes, the possibility of visor technology being employed in the upcoming generation of home consoles appears slim. Regardless, Revolution Report will have more on Nintendo's buying habits in the future.
