Graphics
The in-game visuals look a lot like the Madden games from the PlayStation 1. Each player model is huge and blocky, given you the initial impression that William The Refrigerator Perry is playing every position on field. I really like the look of the bottom screen display with each play diagramed and your eligible receivers shown with the appropriate passing icon. The 3D graphics hold up well and I found them pretty impressive given that this is a handheld system.
Sound
The DSs speakers manage to produce a nice, full sounding Al Michaels. At times, it seems as if hes sitting in your lap, whispering the play-by-play into your ear. But the sound effects and background music seem a little less clear and distinct.
Depth
As is to be expected with a handheld port, the game does not offer a depth of experience comparable to its console versions. You can play an exhibition, go through a full season, or work on your skills with the two-minute drills. The wireless multi-player feature works great but, unlike some of the other DS titles, requires you have two copies of the game to go head-to-head.
Fun Factor
For the sincere sports gamer, Madden equals much fun. The new DS edition is worthy of the name Madden and delivers a quality of experience beyond what I have seen in other handheld sports games. I hope to see EA repeat the success of their port of Madden to the DS with the rest of their sports franchises.
Overall Comments
If you are an avid sports gamer who picked up a DS this holiday season, I heavily encourage you to get Madden 2005. Not only do you get the same game you have loved for so long, you get an innovative new perspective on the field of play. Further, the game translates well to the DS and will keep your insatiable desire for Madden football in check when you are on the go. Pick it up ASAP.

The Bad & The Ugly
Spider-Man 2, while technically impressive, is a trainwreck when it comes to actually trying to play the game. Most of the pieces are there good story, nice graphics, adequate controls, but the level design and structure kill any chance there is of the game being fun to play. There is no radar to help you locate objectives, there are no visual aids to point you in the right direction, and the game doesnt give you any sort of map system to show you where youve already been. Theres no excuse for this, other than the obvious fact that the developers were trying to lengthen a short game or they ran out of time while rushing the game to launch. This means that every level starts out interesting, and quickly grows frustrating due to not being able to figure out simple things, like where the hostages and bad guys are.
For example, on the second level, youve got to find 23 bad guys and kill them nothing else. You start the game facing left and immediately find a bad guy, so you keep going along, swing around, killing every bad guy you see. Rather quickly, you get to the end of the level, only to find youve only killed about ten guys. Your only choice is to head back, and stick to the ground, looking for guys you missed, and then sticking to the rooftops to find others you missed while on the ground. This is annoying, but it gets worse when you learn that youve only found 18 of the 23 guys. It turns out, if you head to the right when the level starts, there are some guys that way, despite the fact that the game gives you no indication that youd have to go backwards, and theres fire immediately to the right, which looks as if it was there to serve as a barrier to remind you to go left. After all this, I still had one guy missing, so I went through the level for another 45 minutes, and finally found the guy hidden at a bus or train terminal, where even though I was a third of an inch from his head, I couldnt see him, and he didnt yell to me so I could find him.
When you actually do find someone, and you get to fight them, the combat is boring, and repetitive. You can simply kick everyone to death, or if youre low on health or in a hurry, you can sling a web at them and then toss them off the side of a building. Since the baddies have a longer reach than you, it can be tough to get close enough to hit them, and sometimes trying to climb up a ledge where a bad guy is waiting results in you getting knocked off the building five times in a row but for the most part, its quite easy.
Other than the voice samples, which are really nothing to write home about, the game sounds pretty lousy. The music is average, but it repeats endlessly, and grates the nerves quickly. You could turn the sound down, but then you wouldnt be able to hear the people yelling to you, and youd never make it through a level again.
Developer Vicarious Visions has done what many people feared 3rd party developers would do with the touch screen, and that is, use it only as a gimmick because Nintendo forced them to use it. Theres no reason to have to select your special moves via the touch screen, and it adds nothing to the game. It would have been perfect to use the screen as a radar or map to help you find your objectives, but that feature isnt available. Yeah, the boss fights where you use both screens are cool, but again, it feels like there was a mandate that said you must use the touch screen for at least one part of the game and thats the only reason why it was there.

It's pretty clear that if the DS couldn't handle N64 ports as well as it does, we wouldn't have seen this game in the handheld's line-up. But since the potential for ease-of-conversions exist on the dual-screen handheld, we get a revival of a Ridge Racer game that's two generations behind the current mark. But, despite the DS' lack of true analog control the system handles the game with as much grace as it can with D-pad or touch-screen control. And the real trip is its great handling of wireless multiplayer, obviously thanks to the team's previous effort with Metroid Prime Hunters. Is it a system seller? Not a chance. But it at least strengthens the current line-up with something that doesn't immediately feel like a rushed product.

7.0 Presentation
So we get a five year old, two generations-behind racing game for DS. At least the developers offer a lot of play that use the DS' functions.
8.0 Graphics
What looked great 5 years ago looks pretty good in handheld form. Fast and smooth 3D engine that's not quite as techincally impressive as its competition.
8.0 Sound
All of the N64's soundtrack is here. Even the hidden old-school stuff.
7.5 Gameplay
Very solid racing that's heavy on the drifting...something that the DS' control structure isn't immediately tailored to handle. It's a learning curve, but it's a lot of fun once you get a grasp.
8.0 Lasting Appeal
The multiplayer focus is excellent and sets a good example for others to follow. The single player is tough-as-balls and will take a good long while to get everything.
7.5 OVERALL
(out of 10 / not an average)
It's safe to say that a lot of the players that are at least thinking about picking up Ridge Racer DS never actually played Ridge Racer 64 back on the N64, and even those players will most likely think that some of the gameplay mechanics and design work in Ridge Racer DS are from another time. It simply doesn't feel like a modern game, and while it may be a decent remake of an older game, it doesn't stand up to today's standards especially well. Even though players will get a kick out of the game's ludicrous take on drifting, Ridge Racer DS has too many flaws to stand out from the pack.

Lies dir besser das ganze review durch bevor du hier rumwetterst. ne 4 von 5 hat das game nicht verdient, da schon eher ne 5 von 5, auch wenn das ne 100% Wertung bedeutet
