Big John Games bringing “Ohno Odyssey” to the 3DS eShop

02_escape-1.jpg

Big John Games, developer of the 3DS eShop releases Coaster Creator 3D, Big Bass Arcade No Limit, and Smash Bowling 3D, is working on another title for Nintendo’s digital store. The studio has shared details with us regarding its latest project, “Ohno Odyssey”.

Ohno Odyssey is a new action-puzzle game inspired by The Incredible Machine. Players guide round alien characters through a number of 2D levels made up of rails. They’ll need to place objects including mud, crates, magnets and fans to keep the character rolling in the right direction and ultimately reach the goal. It won’t be easy, as players will also have to jump over obstacles as well as other power-up enhanced interactivity.

The story is simple enough. The Ohnos aliens race are relaxing in space when, one day, an accident occurs. All of the aliens quickly leave except for the head engineer.

The aliens eventually wind up on Earth, but send distress beacons after realizing they can’t get home. In addition to fixing a ship, the engineer will need to work his way through mountain levels, jungle, and cities to rescue his friends.

And here’s a little tidbit for you: “Oh no” is a common phrase the aliens often use due to their clumsiness.

Players will be able to tackle around 35 different levels in Ohno Odyssey. The game’s story mode is where players will be tasked with collecting all of the Ohnos.

Ohno Odyssey will be out this fall.

Hideki Kamiya Would Like To Make A Bayonetta Spin-Off For 3DS Starring Jeanne

PlatinumGames’ Hideki Kamiya just wrapped up development of The Wonderful 101, which he worked on as director. To date, most of Kamiya’s games have been for consoles. 101 aside, he’s worked on Resident Evil 2, Devil May Cry, Okami, Viewtiful Joe and Bayonetta.

At the Penny Arcade Expo, Siliconera asked Kamiya if he would be interested in developing a Nintendo 3DS game, given Platinum’s ongoing relationship with Nintendo. Kamiya had not one, but two ideas he said he’s like to work on, given the opportunity.

“Given the chance, I’d like to make a game based on Jeanne from Bayonetta,” Kamiya replied. “Something that’s not as big in scale. Something that’s portable, that you could play in quick sessions, where she’s a history teacher and the kind of fun things that could come out of a scenario like that.”

He added, “If I could get away with it, I’d also like to come up with a spin-off of Okami, less focused on the grand idea of saving the world, but [rather] something focused on the smaller world of the fairy Issun.”

A Bayonetta side-story for 3DS sounds fun, especially with the kind of whacky scenario Kamiya described. If not Bayonetta, hopefully he will be given the chance to work on a Nintendo 3DS game someday.
