Blu-ray Disc Association bestreitet Porno-Verbot
Marty Gordon, Vizevorsitzender des BDA US Promotions Committee und Vizepräsident des Hollywood-Büros von Philips, hat bestritten, dass es ein "Verbot für Erwachsenenunterhaltung" gibt. Laut Ars Technica sagte er, die Blu-ray Disc Association begrüße die Beteiligung aller Firmen, die das Format nutzen und unterstützen wollten, "besonders der der Inhalteindustrie". Damit bezog Gordon Stellung zu einem Bericht auf heise online von der US-Messe AVN Adult Entertainment Expo, der auch jenseits des Atlantiks Aufsehen erregte. Darin hatte der Gründer des Unternehmens Digital Playground und Pornofilm-Regisseur Joone erklärt, dass Sony die Veröffentlichung seiner Werke auf dem DVD-Nachfolgeformat Blu-ray Disc verhindert habe.
Ars Technica führt jedoch weiter aus, dass die Pornoindustrie dieses Angebot mittlerweile nicht mehr annehme. Nach einer nicht genauer bezeichneten Branchenquelle sei die HD DVD leichter und preiswerter zu produzieren. Diese Einschätzung würden auch andere Studios aus dieser Branche teilen:
"Lediglich größere Studios können sich Blu-ray leisten, und selbst für sie ist es nicht wirtschaftlich", so ein Zitat. Zudem seien HD-DVD- stärker verbreitet als Blu-ray-Player, auch wegen des externen HD-DVD-Laufwerks für die Xbox 360

HD-DVD goes beyond 50GB with new disc
Toshiba has announced a new 51GB HD-DVD Rom disc at this year's CES.
Beating Blu-ray by 1GB, Toshiba today said that they had successfully created a triple layer HD-DVD disc that could contain 51GB worth of data with 17GB on each layer.
"Continued improvement in disc mastering technology has achieved further minimization in the recording pit, supporting a further boost in capacity to 17GB in single layer and a full 51GB on a single-sided triple-layer disc. Toshiba has confirmed the disc structure and its successful operation." said the press release. "This time-tested physical structure offers proven volume manufacturing at little cost increment."
Toshiba has now closed the storage gab with Blu-ray, which can store 50GB on a dual-layered disc. It will be exciting to see if this has any effect on the raging format war. Stay tuned.

Digital Playground chooses HD-DVD
Originally they supported Blu-ray but they have jumped ship and will release their adult titles on HD-DVD. Digital Playground gives production cost and a ill will within the Blu-ray camp the reason.
Joone (CEO of Digital Playground) said he will release four HD-DVD titles between now and the first week of February, including Island Fever 3, Pirates, Teen America and Island Fever 4.
