Somebody asked me to report on water. Yes, I can confirm there’s water in the game, and yes, it looks good. But now I can’t stop thinking about the loading screen. Maybe I have a new obsession. In the build and map I am playing right this instant, the “physics” and behavior are functioning, but the appearance properties are literally turned off, so it looks amazing, but it also looks like thick, turgid, clay-filled mud. More updates as I explore, tinker and break it in the future. I think the more compelling thing would be WHERE I tested the water…

Oh. And on the subject of MP maps – we have a great variety of maps, with a good breakup of sizes and modes – but on larger maps, vehicle support was a big priority for the design team. Ironically, this is something that becomes a little easier to tune thanks to the universal inclusion of sprint. If your teammate spazzes out and sails off a cliff in your hog, you still have options.

One map in particular gave me a really excellent vibe – a mix of my favorite aspects of Blood Gulch and Waterworks. Don’t just mash those ideas up in your head to imagine the map, because that won’t really get you there. But you’ll know what I mean when you play it. You’d be amazed how much fun it is just to tool around empty levels imagining future encounters, but it’s obviously a lot more fun to hammer through these in playtests. We’re long past the days of playtests being chuggy and graphically bland – and well into them feeling in many ways, like real shipping code, often with spectacular graphics.

About every three years I get to enjoy this period. Watching the hard work and talent of an incredible team take shape and turn from promising innovation and ideas into real, visible, playable results. We’re busy. We’re crunching, but this is the best of times.

Are you hard up for some Halo 4 details, but unable to make it to E3? Well, don't worry, as Spike TV is partnering with Microsoft for live and commercial-free coverage of the Xbox Media Briefing at the 2012 Electronic Entertainment Expo on Monday, June 4 at 12:30pm ET / 9:30am PT.

“Xbox: Entertainment Evolved” will take viewers on a 90-minute journey through the future of the Xbox 360 platform with world premieres of blockbuster games and entertainment experiences set for release in 2012 and beyond. The special event telecasts as part of Spike TV’s “E3 All Access Live” live program, which features more than 17 hours of multi-platform coverage from the 2012 Electronic Entertainment Expo.

"Spike is proud to be the top destination for breaking news at E3 2012, highlighted by the much-anticipated ‘Xbox: Entertainment Evolved’ special event, which will be available for viewing in a record number of media platforms as a part of ‘E3 All Access Live,’" said Jon Slusser, Senior Vice President, Sports and Multi-platform Programming, Spike TV.

So, what exactly can you expect? Here's an official description of the broadcast to get you up to speed:

“Xbox: Entertainment Evolved,” hosted by “GTTV's” Geoff Keighley, will telecast live from the USC's Galen Center in Los Angeles. During the event, Microsoft will offer an exclusive world premiere of Halo 4, as well as present brand-new looks at Forza Horizon, Fable: The Journey, and world premieres of the most anticipated games of 2012 and beyond from Microsoft Studios and third party publishers. In addition, Xbox will outline how it is working with leading content partners to bring entertainment to life in profound new ways that are only possible on Xbox 360.

In addition to airing on Spike TV, Viacom Media Networks and Xbox will make “Entertainment Evolved” available across a record number of digital platforms and screens, including a live broadcast on Xbox Live and a live, high-definition global video stream on the Internet, powered by the Akamai HD Network platform. The event will also air live in Times Square and will be streamed on Facebook, Twitter, mobile platforms, Spike.com, Xbox.com/E3 and more.

"E3 2012 will be an important milestone for Xbox, and we can’t wait to share our vision for how we are making the entertainment you love, more amazing with fans live across Spike TV, online, and, for the first time, on Xbox LIVE,” said Yusuf Mehdi, Chief Marketing Officer of Microsoft’s Interactive Entertainment Business.
