Square Enix has released a new set of Dragon Quest Builders information and screenshots, detailing the block-making RPGs three main elements: collection, creation, and construction.
Get the information below.
■ The Three C’s
Dragon Quest Builders is a “block-making RPG,” the first of its kind. In it, everything you see can be made into raw materials, which you can use to make a variety of items, and demolish, build, and remodel towns. It is a sandbox-style game where players can act on their own accord, while at the same time possessing the story and RPG elements that the Dragon Quest series is known for.
In order to revive a desolated world and the towns once home to the people, the game’s protagonist must use his special power to rebuild. Three elements will be required to do this:
Collection
You’ll need materials in order to build, which you can collect by breaking terrain or defeating monsters.
Creation
Some of the materials you acquire will be ready to use from the get-go, but by applying some additional treatment, you can create entirely new items.
Construction
With your created items in hand, you can start constructing buildings.
■ Blueprints
Items known as a “Blueprints” let anyone put together a building easily according to what’s outlined in the design. Of course, you’re not limited to Blueprints—you can also freely create buildings to your own liking.
■ Monsters
In the world ruled by the Dragonlord, a number of monsters are wandering the field. Monsters that appeared in Dragon Quest I will appear, of course, but so will monsters from across the series. This includes Slimes, Ghosts, Bunicorns, and so on. Monsters might also try to prevent your reconstruction of a town through monster raids.
Dragon Quest Builders will launch for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, and PS Vita in Japan on January 28. If you missed the opening movie, catch it here. Watch 18 minutes of gameplay here.

Square Enix has released a new set of Dragon Quest Builders information and screenshots detailing Merkid, the first area players will visit in the upcoming block-making RPG.
Get the information below.
Merkid’s Topography
Merkid is in ruins when you first visit it. You’ll clearly see the remnants of a fortress city that once was.
In addition to Merkid’s grassy plains, there are also poisonous swamps, rocky mountains where gas-shooting monsters roam, and more.
Discover Mysterious Caves
During your adventure, you’ll come across dungeon-like caves. Inside these caves, there may be valuable materials.
Gates to Unknown Areas
As you progress through the story, you’ll gain access to “Travel Gates,” which will send you off to new areas.
Unique Characters
By listening to what the people living in the game world have to say, you can get hints that help in reviving the town. These are important characters that will become guides on your adventure.
Rolondo is the bearded and dignified son of the former mayor of Merkid. What’s written in the “Merkid Record” book he possesses will apparently help in the town’s revival.
Prinn is a girl overlooking the town’s reconstruction. She’ll present the hero with a variety of requests.
You’ll also come across characters left behind in monster dens. You can drive away the monsters, save them, and bring them back to town.
Gather the Masses
Gathering townsfolk is indispensable to the town’s development. Players should explore a variety of areas in attempts to locate and return people who have been scattered to the town.
Monsters
Outside of town, the hero will face a variety of creatures, including the Dracky, Droll, and Skeleton. A large number of Drolls roam the poisonous swamp zone. You’ll come across the Skeleton early on in the game.

Square Enix has released a new set of Dragon Quest Builders details and screenshots, specifically introducing the town and how you’ll gain experience and level up within it.
Get the information below.
Town
The town is the protagonist’s base. Here, he’ll construct buildings and level up. If he levels up, he can learn new recipes for making items and further the town’s development.
Experience Points
There are three requirements to construct a building: “enclosing a building by at least two levels of blocks,” “providing lighting (such as torches),” and “placing a door.” You’ll gain experience points for simply constructing a building, but by fussing over the interior…
Camp Gauge
When the Camp Gauge reaches its maximum point, you’ll level up. You’ll obtain different values of experience based on the items you place, so try placing a variety of items.
Recipes
Not only can you level up the town, but by talking to villagers when you’ve obtained specific materials, you can learn new recipes. Exploring all over is the key to unlocking new recipes.
Using recipes, you can make items such as the “Storage Chest,” in which you can store created items, or the “Signpost,” a regular item of the Dragon Quest series.
Villagers
In Dragon Quest Builders, by developing the town and rescuing scattered villagers, more and more people will inhabit the town. To make their lives easier, they’ll ask the protagonist for various requests. By taking on these requests, the protagonist will be granted various rewards. Additionally, villagers will help fight off monsters when the town is invaded.
Dragon Quest Builders will launch for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, and PS Vita in Japan on January 28.
