Mr. Osomatsu Anime to Run for 2 Consecutive Seasons

The official Twitter account for the Mr. Osomatsu anime announced on Tuesday that the series will run for two consecutive seasons. The second half will begin in January.

The series premiered on October 5. Crunchyroll is streaming the series as it airs in Japan.

In a press conference on October 29, Yūichi Takahashi of TV Tokyo apologized for the series' third episode. The episode contained a parody of the Anpanman children's anime character. The first and second episodes of the show also contained parodies of many other series, such as Attack on Titan, Boys Over Flowers, and Sailor Moon. The first episode is scheduled to be removed from various streaming sites on November 12, and will be reanimated for the home video release.

Japan does not have a parody exception or provision in its copyright law. Therefore, making parodies of copyrighted works may illegally violate a copyright owners' "right to maintain integrity," if performed without the copyright holder's prior consent.

Fujio Akatsuka's original Osomatsu-kun manga and "high tension comedy" TV anime centered on the Matsuno household, which has six naughty and mischievous sons (who are sextuplets). All of the sextuplets, including the eldest Osomatsu, are all in love with the same girl, Totoko. The original series followed the family when the sons were 10 years old.

The first 56-episode series aired in Japan in 1966-1967. Akira Shigino (Time Bokan: Royal Revival, Marude Dameo, Crayon Shin-chan: Otakebe! Kasukabe Yasei Ōkoku) directed the series, and Mainichi Broadcasting, Studio Zero, and Children's Corner produced the series. Studio Pierrot animated the second 86-episode series, which aired from 1988-1989. Shigino served as chief director.

The staff are creating the new anime to commemorate what would have been Akatsuka's 80th birthday (Akatsuka passed away in 2008 at age 72).

Akatsuka launched the Osomatsu-kun manga in Shogakukan's Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine in 1962, and the manga ran in the magazine until 1969. The manga then ran in Weekly Shonen King from 1972-1973, and then in Comic BonBon from 1987-1990. The compiled manga volumes have more than 10 million copies in print.

Anime Characters' Crazy Hairstyles Ranked in Charapedia Poll

Protagonists in anime are often notorious for their wacky and unrealistic hairstyles, but which ones are said to be the craziest? A recent Charapedia poll tallied up votes and calculated the top 20 most unbelievable hairstyles worn by anime characters.

l02YIkP.jpg

Unsurprisingly, first place went to Yugi Mutou from Yu-Gi-Oh!. With an uncanny mixture of yellow, maroon and black, styled with gravity-defying spikes and edges, it's no wonder Yugi's hairstyle is considered the strangest of them all.

WnvSpVQ.jpg

Second place went to everyone's favorite Saiyan, Son Goku of Dragon Ball Z fame. While not as strikingly colorful as Yugi's hair, Goku's seemingly-random spikes of hair jutting from his head make it a wonder that no one mistakes it for bed hair.

jVHmjL2.jpg

Ran Mori from Detective Conan won third place. While certainly more modest than the higher ranked, the one apparent spike perched upon what would otherwise be an objectively normal head of hair makes for an unsettling contrast.

The full list is as follows

- Yugi Mutou from Yu-Gi-Oh!
- Son Goku from Dragon Ball
- Ran Mori from Detective Conan
- Jean Pierre Polnareff from JoJo's Bizarre Adventure
- Gon from Hunter x Hunter
- Kenpachi Zaraki from Bleach
- Suneo Honekawa from Doraemon
- Namihei Isono from Sazae-san
- Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo from Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo
- Giorno Giovana from JoJo's Bizarre Adventure
- Kotori Minami from Love Live!
- Levi from Attack on Titan
- Saitama from One Punch Man
- Franky from One Piece
- Sazae Fuguda from Sazae-san
- Tetsurou Kurou from Haikyuu!!
- Masato Hijikawa from Uta no Prince Sama
- Kimio Nagasawa from Chibi Maruko-chan
- Yusei Fudou from Yu-Gi Oh! 5D's
- Noriaki Kakyouin from JoJo's Bizarre Adventure

What do you think about the list? Who has your vote for the wildest anime hair? Let us know in the forums!

Japanese Anime Fans Pick Best Opening Songs

The Japanese anime website Anime! Anime! polled its readers to determine what their favorite anime opening theme was. The poll was conducted from November 6 to 12 and got 1,288 responses. The gender ratio was nearly equal, with a slight male majority. About half of the respondents were in their 10s, which is reflected in the list's tilt towards recent works.

The results are:

"only my railgun," fripSide (A Certain Scientific Railgun)

- "Guren no Yumiya," Linked Horizon (Attack on Titan)

- "My Soul, Your Beats!," Lia (Angel Beats!)
- "Melissa," Porno Graffiti (Fullmetal Alchemist)
- "to the beginning," Kalafina (Fate/Zero)
- "Sobakasu," Judy and Mary (Rurouni Kenshin)
- "Jigoku no Sata mo Kimi Shidai," Jigoku no Sata All Stars (Hozuki's Coolheadedness)
- "Tori no Uta," Lia (Air)
- "We Are!," Hiroshi Kitadani (One Piece)

Despite regularly topping karaoke playlists, Neon Genesis Evangelion's theme song, "Zankoku na Tenshi no Thesis," is not on the list. Anime! Anime! also polled its readers on their favorite ending themes, but these results have not yet been announced.
