One-Punch Man Creator's Mob Psycho 100 Manga Gets TV Anime

Studio BONES adapts ONE's story about boy with hidden psychic powers in 2016

Shogakukan's web comic magazine Ura Sunday announced on Wednesday that a television anime adaptation of ONE's Mob Psycho 100 manga has been green-lit. The anime will air next year, and the studio BONES (Fullmetal Alchemist, Eureka Seven, Blood Blockade Battlefront) is producing.

The story revolves around "Mob," a boy who will explode if his emotional capacity reaches 100%. This boy with psychic powers earned his nickname "Mob" because he does not stand out among other people. He keeps his psychic powers bottled up so he can live normally, but if his emotional level reaches 100, something will overwhelm his entire body.

The manga creator ONE launched the Mob Psycho 100 series on Ura Sunday in 2012 and later in Shogakukan's MangaOne app in 2014. Shogakukan will publish the 11th compiled book volume of the manga on Friday.

Another manga by ONE, One-Punch Man, inspired the ongoing television anime.

Ura Sunday lets readers vote earlier this year for which of its manga should get an anime adaptation, and Mob Psycho 100 was among those titles that received the most votes.

The Gekijō-ban Hibike! Euphonium ~ Kitauji Kōkō Suisōraku-Bu e Yōkoso~ film will look back at the spring 2015 television series, which depicted a high school concert band's journey to the prefectural band competition. The separate sequel project will depict what happens afterward.

The spring 2015 television anime adapted Ayano Takeda's 2013 novel, which is also titled Hibike! Euphonium Kitauji Kōkō Suisōraku-Bu e Yōkoso. The story follows the Kitauji High School Concert Band, which used to always advance to national competitions. Ever since the adviser changed, though, it has not advanced past the Kansai tournament. However, thanks to the newly appointed adviser's strict instruction, the students are steadily improving. The band members' daily lives are full of ups and downs including fights over solos and the decision to resign extracurricular activities to focus on studies.

The television anime premiered in April, and Pony Canyon USA streamed the anime on Crunchyroll as the anime aired in Japan. Pony Canyon USA will also release the anime in North America.

AŌP Returns to Perform 2nd Mr. Osomatsu Anime's Opening Theme

The official Twitter account for the idol unit AŌP announced on Sunday that they will be performing the opening theme for the upcoming second season of the Mr. Osomatsu anime. The song's name will be "Zenryoku batankyū." The song's single will ship on February 10.

AŌP performed the first season's opening, "Hanamaru pippi wa yoiko dake." The group also performed theme songs for Ace of Diamond and Insufficient Direction.

The anime's official Twitter account also revealed on Sunday that the anime will have seven upcoming drama CDs. The drama CDs will go on sale monthly starting in February.

The official Twitter account for the Mr. Osomatsu anime announced last month that the series will run for two consecutive seasons. The second half will begin in January.

The series premiered on October 5. Crunchyroll streamed the series as it aired in Japan.

Fujio Akatsuka's original Osomatsu-kun manga and "high tension comedy" TV anime centered on the Matsuno household, which has six naughty and mischievous sons (who are sextuplets). All of the sextuplets, including the eldest Osomatsu, are all in love with the same girl, Totoko. The original series followed the family when the sons were 10 years old. The show re-imagines the original manga and TV anime with the sextuplets as adults.

Akatsuka launched the Osomatsu-kun manga in Shogakukan's Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine in 1962, and the manga ran in the magazine until 1969. The manga then ran in Weekly Shonen King from 1972-1973, and then in Comic BonBon from 1987-1990. The compiled manga volumes have more than 10 million copies in print.
