Thema: Nun was gibt es großartiges zum Bluray vorsprung zu sagen. So lange die zahlen so winzig klein sind, kann auch der kleinste schub der HD-DVD helfen, der krieg ist noch offen, aber kaum spannend, wenn zwei sich streiten, freut sich die DVD...

The Sony-backed high-def format has another big week.

Washington, D.C. (May 3, 2007) -- Since the beginning of the year, Blu-ray disc sales have doubled its rival HD DVD. And, according to Nielsen VideoScan, last week was no different.

Blu-ray accounted for 71 percent of all HDTV DVD title sales last week, compared to 29 percent for HD DVD.

That's according to an article by Reuters.

The news service says Blu-ray was aided by the release of the Ben Stiller comedy, A Night at the Museum, which is available only on Blu-ray.

Pioneer announce Blu-ray drive for $299

Pioneer USA has officially announced the availability of the BDC-2202, a combo drive which will read Blu-ray discs (including movies) as well as read/write DVDs and CDs.

The drive, which will be the first Blu-ray drive to not have burn capability, will retail for the ultra low cost of $299 when it hits store shelves in June, making it the cheapest Blu-ray drive on the market by a few hundred dollars.

Premiere startet am 27. Mai auf Premiere HD die Sendung "HD perfekt". Die Sendung soll es ermöglichen, die Bildqualität von HDTV-Displays zu optimieren. Anhand von Testbildern erklärt Premiere Moderatorin Tamara Sedmak den HD-Zuschauern, wie sie ihren Fernseher optimal einstellen.

"HD perfekt" wird jeden Sonntag zwischen 9.00 und 10.00 Uhr unverschlüsselt im neuen MPEG4/H.264-Standard auf Premiere HD ausgestrahlt und dauert rund 20 Minuten. Im Vorfeld der Sendung kann sich der Zuschauer über Checklisten und Einstellungen unter www.premiere.de/hdtv informieren.

Next week, new HD DVD movies will hit the shelves that won't play on some players, the first countermeasure by the content and software industries to combat intensive efforts by hackers to break copy-protection technology.

The move comes four months after hackers first poked a hole in AACS (Advanced Access Content System), the complex encryption scheme used to protect HD DVD and Blu-ray Discs. In the interim, they've been able to decrypt HD DVD movies and, theoretically, upload them to file-sharing networks.


The development, disclosed on the Doom9.org forum for video technology aficionados, ironically involved the use of an HD DVD add-on drive for the Xbox 360, the gaming system from Microsoft, one of the backers of the AACS system.

The new method uses the Xbox's HD DVD drive to read the volume ID for a disc, one piece of information needed to eventually decrypt and copy a disc.

That security gap will be closed, at least for some time, with the new discs. But earlier this month, hackers scored another success in compromising AACS technology, an effort cryptography experts say foreshadows a difficult road ahead in keeping pirates at bay.

Through sophisticated software probes, hackers found the device key in InterVideoDVD, a software program now owned by Corel. On April 6, Corel issued an update for the InterVideo WinDVD playback software that refreshes and further obscures those device keys. New HD DVDs issued after April 23 will not work on players running the old software.

Ich bin sicher, dass es auch solche Einschnitte in BluRay gibt...
... nur weil die News dieses Users so einseitig präsentiert werden, muss es noch lange keine Diskrepanz in Punkto Sicherheit geben

Es bleibt spannend.

Und... früher oder später werden die Formate eh aufgebrochen.
Nur, Sony spioniert doch die Leute per BluRay aus, nicht?
