Nintendo sells 750,000 Wiis in America in April / new weekly sales record
VGChartz.com, the most comprehensive Videogame charts in the world, has announced that America sales of Nintendos Wii topped 750,000 units in April.
According to our internal data Nintendo sold roughly 760,000 Wii consoles in the tracking period of April an average of 190,000 units a week, the highest average of non-holiday sales ever achieved by a single console in the Americas. This is the second month in a row the Wii broke the 700,000 units mark, a first in the American gaming industry. The console accounted for 53% market share in the home console sector in April and is on pace to outsell Xbox 360 LTD sales before September

Biggest week for the system was the week ending May 3rd, 2008 (the last week in the April tracking period) when hardware sales of the console peaked at 398,000 units, the highest non-holiday sales in a single week.
Additionally, worldwide sales for the system topped 660,000 units in the same week, by far the biggest non-holiday week for a single system the videogaming market has ever seen. The record was previously held by the Nintendo DS with 569,000 units.

April saw the releases of Mario Kart Wii and Grand Theft Auto IV, which went on to sell roughly 6 million copies in its first week on the market.
So far the Nintendo Wii is the fastest selling home console ever created.
