EndWar devs inspired by the Wii

“We were very much inspired by other natural input methods, whether it’s the guitar for Guitar Hero, or the steering wheel for driving games, or the Wii. If you let people play to the natural way they would do something, then you get the dual benefits of accessibility and immersion.” - Ubisoft Shanghai boss Michael de Plater

Nintendo Power - Cursed Mountain preview

Cursed Mountain

-Use Tibetan Prayer movements to exorcise demons.
-Enter the ‘Bardo’ or Tibetan Spiritual Realm to see otherwise invisible ghosts.
-Combat mechanics are why developer Deep Silver chose Wii.
-Wanted a survival horror that wouldn’t let you clutch the controller close, saying that the open armed movements make you feel ‘very vulnerable,’ which adds to the experience.
-The mountain itself offers exciting challenges, including a balance act that requires you to tilt the remote for balance as you cross a narrow passage.

Sony - we can’t let Nintendo take the market

“The thing that I did when I took over last year was to boast the appeal of games themselves… The main premise of the PS3 is video games. That’s the absolutely most important thing that we cannot lose sight of. We cannot allow Nintendo run off alone.” - Kaz Hirai, Global Sony Computer Entertainment boss

Nintendo Owns September

NPD Report: Unique Controls put Wii at #1 for September, and DS at #2.

US, October 16, 2008 - Backed by a variety of unique interfaces, Nintendo's Wii console topped the U.S. video game hardware sales charts with nearly 687,000 units sold in September, according to the independent NPD Group, which tracks video game sales in the United States. Nintendo DS was the No. 2 best-selling system, with nearly 537,000 sold.

Wii enjoyed the biggest monthly unit sales increase with 234,000 more units sold in September than August. Wii also saw a year-over-year increase of more than 37 percent over September 2007.

Four games made for Nintendo systems placed in the top 10 best-selling games of the month, including Wii Fit at No. 2 with nearly 518,000 sold, Mario Kart Wii at No. 4 with more than 353,000 sold, Wii Play at No. 7 with nearly 243,000 sold and Star Wars: The Force Unleashed for Wii at No. 8 with more than 223,000 sold.

"The four Wii games in the top 10 all feature controls just not possible on other video game systems," said Cammie Dunaway, Nintendo of America's executive vice president of Sales & Marketing. "The Wii Balance Board and Wii Wheel give players new ways to interact with their games, while the Wii Remote controller transforms into a pool cue, table tennis paddle or lightsaber. Consumers have truly responded to this variety of entertainment options."

Hudson’s ‘The Calling’ is real, but footage was stolen

Here’s a sad situation. The footage we posted up yesterday from ‘The Calling’ turned out to be the real deal. That is indeed a game that Hudson is working on. The problem is, Hudson has confirmed that the footage was stolen from them. You never know what goes on with video leaks. They could be the real deal, could be fake, or they could be leaked on purpose as viral marketing. All have been done before, but unfortunately for Hudson, they had the worst case scenario.
