There are also a few games being developed by some very small dev teams. These games may never see the light of day on the Wii, but we should all hope that they do and that they are successful:
· Darkness.
· Orb.
· Sadness.
· Sunder: Land of Divide.
· Thorn.
Games that Shigeru Miyamoto has Hinted at:
· Pikmin 3: He says that the new controller is well suited to Pikmin.
· Luigi's Mansion 2: Was meantioned, nothing more said.
· Kid Icarus: Told interviewers that Nintendo must get started on it right away since everyone wants it so much.
The Information we know on the Games:
· Metroid Prime 3: It will blow us away according to Retro Studios, and it will also be the final installment in the Prime mini-series, making it into a trilogy, and it will make good use of the Wii's controller.
· Super Smash Bros.: It is Online. All we need, really.
· Mario 128: It has been in development hell for the last 27 ½ years; is Nintendo going after the Duke Nukem Forever record? But, it might be coming at last. The latest Miyamoto interview:
Why wait so long to release a new installment of Mario? The wait is frustrating players everywhere...
Mario is and always has been a concept title from his birth. We are always looking for new ways of playing with him, manipulating him, to create something new and unique. We're in the midst of preparing something special for his future, something never before seen. You'll understand when you see it that we can't quite release it right away. The new Mario game will surprise many people. Give us the benefit of the doubt. I think we'll present you with a new way to have fun. There's even a new character by his side.
Mario 128 will be released for Wii then?
Yes, of course! It's no surprise, but of course we will rename it, obviously. That won't be the only surprise of next year though. We based the Wii around this new type of game. Mario 128 played a large role in the Wii's conception, much like Mario 612 in it's time. But we won't just be focusing on Mario. We're working on some very impressive games which push interactivity to the max. Games of a new era.
The new Zelda, it's not really good news that...
Please allow me to interrupt you by saying that you will have to be patient, really. This will be, without a doubt, the last Zelda game as you know it in its present form. I worked on it personally, moreso than Wind Waker! I haven't invested as much into any game as I have this one. Our goal was to make the best Zelda game ever. The most rich/satisfying and melancholy. We've really improved it in just a few months. Everything's coming together much quicker. We may have some last minute ideas...
You're going to move it to Wii?
No, it is a Gamecube title.
In any case, you want to preserve the air of mystery around Nintendo?
We will be revealing many details soon. It's true, we do like surprises (laughs). While our gamers are sleeping, we're busy thinking up new ideas. But while they're playing - we're playing as well.
· Project Golden Sun: We know Camelot were making Golden Sun for the GC but it never appeared. We know that they are making a Next Gen RPG for the Wii. We know that Golden Sun 9 + 2 on GBA was only a prologue to the main story.
· Possession: The only game we actually really know anything about, after being confirmed for PS3 and X360 it was later confirmed for Wii as well. Developed on the "Flame" engine for next-generation consoles and PC systems, Blitz Games' Possession is a twisted action-RTS where you are an undead zombie looking to exact revenge on the humans who made you this creature. As The Enslaver, you control a mass of zombies, and can command the hoard or possess one of the minions to take control and unleash hell.
· Trauma Centre Wii: Trauma Centre on the DS saw you performing surgical operations on people who desperately needed medical attention. The game had an animé visual style, and you had to perform the operations using the system's stylus and its touch screen. Now they want you to do more... alot more.. this time on the Wii. It will all be in 3D (though the exact visual style of the game is as yet unknown), and you will be performing your operations this time using the Wii's unique and mouse-accurate freehand controller. The new layer of interactivity this will add to the game promises to make for an extremely innovative and interesting experience, and will not be for the faint of heart or the unsteady of hand.
· The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess: This game was very recently confirmed to have Wii controller functionality when played on the Wii. It is now known that Revmote's uses in this game are to include, but won't be limited to: Using the Boomerang, and using the Revmote as the string on your Bow, pulling it back as you're riding Epona with the analogue stick. So, what's stopping Nintendo from quietly nudging Twilight Princess back by a month or two so that it can become a Wii launch title? Well, now we know of the Revmote functionality, absolutely nothing. And you know what? I don't even mind! =D
· Red Steel: It's an FPS, in which you can use guns and swords. At the beginning of the game, you are apparently encouraged to use bigger and more devastating, yet less efficient, weapons, such as explosives, shotguns, heavy machineguns etc.
· Elebits: In Elebits, players move around a game world, attempting to find and collect Elebit creatures. Elebits are small and cute like Pikmin, but they actually serve as the energy source that makes the game's world move. The "Ele" in the name appears to stand for Electricity, with the "Bits" reflecting that the characters are tiny.
As you find Elebits, the game world will slowly evolve. The game will offer a feel of "hunting," suggesting that perhaps the Elebits won't just be sitting around waiting to get caught.
