SCEA President Didn't Expect People To Buy Kinect
The president and CEO of
Sony Computer Entertainment America Jack Tretton has stated that he didn't expect people to buy Microsft's motion-sensing device for the Xbox 360,
Kinect. He did, however, admit that he was wrong and recognises that Kinect is a hit for Microsoft.
When Engadget asked for Tretton's opinion on the
Nintendo 3DS, he said:
"You know, I’m not an expert on the 3DS. I’ve seen the screen. I haven’t played it. I think that if you could create content that consumers sees compelling, they’ll find money that they didn’t think they had. I think the more recent example of that was Kinect.
"I didn’t think people would go out and spend $150 for that device and they did — and that’s a peripheral at the end of the day."
Kinect, which was released in November, was a smash-hit for Microsoft -- especially during the Christmas period.
