Unfortunately (for me, fortunately for you guys), there will indeed be some pretty big announcements. I'm going to have my work cut out for me; there are meetings all over the place and, yes, some big and important showings. GDC is big this year for stuff other than just devs... again, unfortunately. It really is becoming a mini-E3.
they're sort of happening alongside but "outside" the conference itself for the most part. I think there must have been a bit of chatter behind-the-scenes that had the Big Three taking a bit of a break this year, which is why the big keynote is, appropriately, Sid Meier doing his thang rather than a hardware maker touting their wares. Of all the shifts toward making this more of a press-friendly showing a la E3, I think I like the idea of stepping down with the big platform-specific stuff and just letting a legend have his say is a nice change of pace -- though one could rightly claim that he's sort of the spokeperson for the PC as a platform. In any event, it's not really a LBP/Gears 2/Rhythm Heaven sort of thing, and I'm fine with that.
