Famitsu this week has a feature on PlayStation’s 20th anniversary. We’ve pulled a few noteworthy comments from the magazine.
According to Andrew House, the president and Group CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment (hereby SCE), SCE will have two big philosophical pillars going forward. The first is enduring and long-lasting hardware, with updates adding more and more value to PlayStation platforms. The second is PlayStation 4’s upcoming virtual reality headset, Project Morpheus.
SCE Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida reveals that SCE had considered Sega a rival during the PSone days, but in the end, both had similar goals and therefore Sega became more of a “war buddy.” Yoshida also said that he hopes to continue bringing PlayStation 4 more Japanese games after Bloodborne that highlight the platform’s capabilities.
Koei Tecmo vice president Hisashi Koinuma said that he is looking into a number of crossover Musou (Dynasty Warriors-type) games, but various circumstantial reasons make many of them difficult to realize. He added that Dynasty Warriors Gundam left a lasting impact on him, as some people within Bandai Namco were against their production, but ultimately were able to make it. Koinuma hopes to keep making more PlayStation 4 and PS Vita games to boost the presence of Japanese games in the market, especially for PS4.
