‘One Piece Film: Gold’ Main Visual Color Spread Appearing in Feb. 29 Weekly Shonen Jump

According to the latest issue of the Japanese Weekly Shonen Jump, officially on sale Feb. 22, One Piece will be coming back from its one-week break on Feb. 29 in the 13th issue of the magazine with an extra big serving of One Piece content!

iGFejUk.jpg

According to the official preview for next week’s issue of Jump, the 13th issue will not only be featuring One Piece on the cover of the magazine as well as a lead color spread for the series, but it will apparently also give us more explanations on the character model sheets of the Straw Hat crew. While the Japanese is a bit ambiguous in my opinion, it seems that next week’s color spread will be the One Piece Film: Gold‘s official main visual poster drawn by Eiichiro Oda himself, most likely similar to the One Piece color spread we had when One Piece Film: Z was going to come out a few years ago.

Either way, next week is bound to be a very big week of One Piece!

‘One Piece Film: Gold’ First Official Poster Unveiled

The Japanese website for One Piece has unveiled the first colored poster for the upcoming One Piece movie, One Piece Film: Gold. The poster focuses on the Straw Hats in their leather outfits for the movie and Gild Tesoro. The poster also features a colorful roulette table in the background, complimenting the casino-esque vibe of the movie.

In addition to one of the official posters for One Piece Film: Gold, the official website also confirms the second installment of the prizes for the first 50,000 ticket pre-orders across the country, starting March 18. This set of pre-order bonuses includes the A-3 sized “Voyage Day” calendars with the official movie artwork of the cast drawn by none other than Eiichiro Oda.

‘One Piece Film: Gold’ Main Setting Images Unveiled

On March 4 at 5:55 A.M. Japan time, the TV channel Fuji TV showed visuals from the upcoming One Piece movie, One Piece Film: Gold on its daily morning show, Mezamashi TV.

“What awaits them there? Endless dreams or bottomless darkness…”

As we already knew from previous reveals in the Weekly Shonen Jump, the movie is set inside the ship of possible movie antagonist Gild Tesoro. The ship’s name: the Gran Tesoro (or Grantesoro depending on which spelling the movie will use).

K6yDfqf.jpg

“The inside of the ship is built like a city and it’s even been acknowledged by the World Government as an independent state.”

The images shown today reveal just how imposing the 10km golden ship is — after all, the Gran Tesoro is apparently the One Piece world’s biggest casino and entertainment facility. Japanese One Piece super fan, Kamiki, was also quick to note how there was one person in the background who looks strangely familiar: Heracles.

To finish off the One Piece Film: Gold segment, the Mezamashi TV morning show also showed the special One Piece Film: Gold and Toho Cinemas’ collaborative teaser video that was made under supervision of One Piece creator Eiichiro Oda.

One Piece Film: Gold will be released in Japan on July 23 and no release dates have been offered yet in other countries. Previous announcements have already given us a few ideas on the Straw Hats’ different costumes throughout the movie, as well as an idea of what Gild Tesoro, the potential main antagonist of the movie, and his crewmates will look like in this golden city. One Piece Film: Gold Special Video Released for Toho Cinemas Collaboration

The Japanese news site Natalie revealed a special video made for a collaboration between One Piece Film: Gold and the Japanese “Toho Cinemas” for the upcoming One Piece Film: Gold movie

According to the latest issue of the Japanese Weekly Shonen Jump, on sale Feb. 29, and the Natalie article, this video will be viewable in Toho Cinemas all over Japan starting March 5. The teaser video shows off the Straw Hats in their One Piece Film: Gold costumes as they hit a round projectile sent by Usopp which, in the end, is hit by Luffy and then revealed to be a small golden pachinko ball.

The majority of the video is also left in its rough sketch format before transitioning to a regularly animated colour group shot of the Straw Hats.

Astute fans might have noticed that the gold projectile strongly resembles the bigger, spherically-shaped golden item Luffy is crouching on in the recently released movie teaser for One Piece Film: Gold.

For those of you unfamiliar with it, pachinko is a Japanese mechanical game often used as a way for people in Japan to gamble while circumventing the Japanese Gambling Law. Regular pachinko balls all have a small monetary value, but golden pachinko balls are considered to be quite rare, and have higher value than their regular counterparts.

Considering the setting of the upcoming One Piece Film: Gold movie, the information already given to us about Gild Tesoro, and the title itself, could it be that this videoclip teases a combination attack by the strawhats in the movie? Despite it being Usopp who fires off the original projectile in this video, the very flashy Gild Tesoro might somehow uses golden projectiles like these in his fighting style? What do you think this video represents? Let us know in the comments.

‘One Piece Film: Gold’ Character Abilities Revealed

The Japanese Weekly Shonen Jump Issue #14, officially on sale March 7, revealed the color character designs for Gild Tesoro and his Tesoro crewmates from One Piece Film: Gold and provided more information about this crew.

Weekly Shonen Jump 14 One Piece Film: Gold Gild TesoroFirst is the leader of the Tesoro Crew in One Piece Film: Gold , Gild Tesoro. He is the man in pink and the ruler of the Gran Tesoro — the enormous golden boat that also acts as an enormous casino and entertainment facility and was recognized as a demilitarized zone by the World Government. According to this week’s issue of Jump, Tesoro the “Casino King” is said to control 20% of all the berries (also known as “belis”) in the world, and like his crewmates, he is also a Devil Fruit user. As hinted in the collaboration video with Toho Cinemas, and the movie’s title, Gild Tesoro is a “Gold-Gold” Devil Fruit user. Not a lot more is known about his Devil Fruit’s specific powers, but this may mean that we will see One Piece‘s very own King Midas.

Weekly Shonen Jump 14 One Piece Film: Gold BaccaratNext up is Baccarat (pronounced “bac-a-rah“), the second member of the Tesoro Crew who has a “classy attitude,” is the wielder of the “Luck-Luck” Devil Fruit and the Gran Tesoro’s concierge. She escorts the Straw Hat crew upon their arrival. People who have been touched by this mysterious woman seem to have “their luck turn,” but is it for the better…or worse?

The third member of the Tesoro Crew is Dice, a bulky man who is in charge of bringing “the most amazing games” to the casino’s visitors. Dice also holds a “special power,” but Jump does not go into further detail.

The fourth member of the Tesoro Crew is Mr. Tanaka, in charge of the Gran Tesoro’s security and wielder of the “Mellow-Mellow” Devil Fruit* which is said to be related to his role on the Gran Tesoro.

The final member of the Tesoro Crew revealed in this week’s Jump is Carina. This person, who was seen arguing with Nami in last week’s issue of Jump, is actually the Gran Tesoro’s singing queen. She also holds a Devil Fruit power. However, the fruit’s name, let alone what it does, remains a mystery to be revealed. Our own Joey Weiser noticed Carina on the One Piece Film Gold poster from last week:

Be sure to keep an eye out for any more news related to the upcoming movie, One Piece Film: Gold, here on The One Piece Podcast.

*The Japanese uses “nuke-nuke” which might come from the onomatopoeia for being “nonchalant,” but unlike Baccarat’s Devil Fruit name, Mr. Tanaka’s Devil Fruit power is more mysterious making it difficult to correctly name it in English.
