Interview mit Sakaguchi:
Q: Conceptually, what are the differences between Lost Odyssey and Blue Dragon -- what are you doing here that you couldn't do in Blue Dragon?
A: The world is different -- in Blue Dragon the characters are designed by [Akira] Toriyama, so the style is adjusted to his work. In this one, it's designed by [Takehiko] Inoue, so the taste is more realistic and the story itself is deeper and heavier. And the theme is more humanistic.
Q: Can you say more about the theme?
A: This person has been living for 1000 years, he's immortal. And the story itself is very dynamic, engaging, and emotional. He's emotionless, his emotions are all dried out. He's lost his memories. And sometimes his memories flash back on him, so he remembers. But throughout all these ordeals, he realizes that what's important is not really grand things but the small things that happen in his surroundings. So as I said, the story is very grand but it's an emotional, compelling story.
Q: What do you think about the direction of the Final Fantasy games have gone in? Because you seem to be preserving the classic style of those games while they go in a different direction.
A: There are pros and cons for both sides, whether it's turn-based or action-oriented video games. For this theme and this design, turn-based is better than action-oriented, so I chose that. I'm trying to evolve turn-based games to the next generation.
Q: Was there anything, back when you were working on Final Fantasy games, that you weren't able to achieve -- either because you were working for a company or even in terms of technology -- but now you're able to do?
A: The graphical quality -- the programmable shaders. And also the facial expressions is something we can do much better on next-generation systems.
Q: Have you considered getting Yoshitaka Amano back into the fold, working with him?
A: [In English] Yeah, good idea. And, he wants. Yeah, sometime.

Der held hört sich für mich doch sehr Interessant an. Irgendwie ein mix aus Cloud und Squall. Kaum noch Emotionen vorhanden. Auch dass das setting sehr erwachsen ist, und die Story viel tiefe besitzen wird.
